Affinity Photo can't open files from server

Recommended Posts

@tombro

Welcome to the Affinity forums.

Have you tried first copying the file(s) to your local computer?  Do they then open properly in whichever version of APh you have?

Win 10 Pro, i7 6700K, 32Gb RAM, NVidia GTX1660 Ti and Intel HD530 Graphics

Long-time user of Serif products, chiefly PagePlus and PhotoPlus, but also WebPlus, CraftArtistProfessional and DrawPlus.  Delighted to be using Affinity Designer, Photo, and now Publisher, version 1 and now version 2.

iPad Pro (12.9") (iOS 17.4) running Affinity Photo and Designer version 1 and all three version 2 apps.

Hi @tombro

Do you use a NAS? And if so, from which manufacturer?
Is the connection to the network folder made directly or via a drive link?

@tombro

Run your Affinity app in administrator mode then try to open your files again.

Unfortunately I am on mac and don't have this as an option.

In the Mac OS System Preferences you have the Users and Groups pane. In the Password section you'll see the option to set your current User as an Administrator.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.4
Affinity Designer 2.4.1 | Affinity Photo 2.4.1 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.1 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Yeah, this is not the issue, and yes I am running as an administrator, I thought you meant to run the app as an administrator like you can in Windows. It seems this is a bug in Affinity Photo related to file locking on SMB shares.

Hi TomBro,

Sorry for the late response to your post. Does TrueNAS use a management app of any sort etc? If it does does closing this app allow you to open the file?

Thanks
C
