Please bring back the large paper size presets

Recommended Posts

This has been raised several times, apparently it is because very few people have desktop printers that can print to these sizes.
(It would seem that Serif assume that professional designers only print to domestic desktop printers, rather than sending work to pro print shops etc! 😁
Maybe they are trying to save people from having to scroll too much, but personally I'm not convinced an extra three lines would make that much difference.

There a several post in the bug report sections from users working in the architectural context. Despite this simply think of creating huge designs that will be printed as posters via online print services. All DIN formats should be availlable as presets.

Unfortunately. In Windows 11, A2, A1, A0, DL, 2xDL are not present in the presets, and later selection is also not possible. In version V1 these options were present.

The A2, A1 and A0 formats are not there when you start V2 and the new file dialog comes up. However... if you select document setup after creating a document then these formats are available for selection to change the document size.

With a file opened, if you press the Document Setup button (or File > Document Setup), you'll find all presets there.

Hmm not on Mac. No size larger than A3 is there.

Nope - Windows 10 Publisher (German). The "TD DIN A0" is a custom preset i added by hand.

@tudor

You are right. For Designer i found them in the document settings (not in Publisher).

But who figured out that workflow? Create a new document smaller than needed, then always have to resize it. Instead of presenting ALL presets in the "New Document" screen?

And of course Publisher users "never have to use DIN A0" - unless they are e.g. architects which use Publisher because of the StudioLink functionality (👍) with all 3 Applications for layout, drawing and bitmap editing in one application - just kidding🙄...

There are more business's than you may think that need large format design and print. I worked in the Reprographics unit of a legal firm for several years and we had to deal with large numbers of plans, maps. posters etc at A2, A1 and A0.

One would have thought that as a suite of applications there could be a unified template dialogue. All the apps use the same file format, so why not unify the template choices?  Or simply allow the sharing of template presets between installed applications.

Just notice that A2,A1,A0 sizes have been removed... I know I can add them again manually, but seems a backwards step that they were removed in V2?

Yes, I only design for the big sizes, and of course I miss them too. I don't use smaller than A2, ever.

I don't think it's a good solution for Serif to try to pick a range of sizes that will make as many people as possible happy.

I would suggest Serif to build an underlying database of paper formats to search and supplement from, how many and which formats are default in templates would then not be so crucial.

 1) You have completely wrecked the layers panel, Serif.

2) I recommend Reddit groups instead of this forum. Not the same few bot-like users replying to everything, a wider representation of users, fewer fanboys, more qualified users. In short, better!

3) I was here to report bugs and submit improvement requests for professional work professionally in a large setup and to bring a lot of knowledge from the world, i.e. professional product development, web- and software development, usability, user experience design and accessibility. I actually know what I am talking about!

BUT! We are phasing out Designer and Affinity in 2022 Q1 - and replacing it with feature complete and algorithmically competent alternatives.
Publisher is unsuitable for serious use, and was never adopted.

I agree, please place A2 to A0 sizes on the Publisher paper size menu. It is great to design a large paper presentation and scale down afterwards when printing or export to pdf etc. documents.

Most of my brochures are on A2 size that I now have to custom paper size set up.

You can create your own Templates with the formats (and document settings) that you use most often.

But since the OP writes "Most of my brochures are", I assume that he always creates the same documents/brochures, and in this case it is already worth creating his own Templates.

A2, A1 and A0 paper size on the document size menu will be great, thank you.

And our intention (as fellow users) is to make sure you understand the available ways to improve your workflow until that product enhancement is implemented :)

Not speaking for @Dazmondo77, of course; but for me, the heart only stays active for as long as the application is open, Walt, and I don't call that sticky. Not sticky enough anyhow.

Also, occasionally, all presets will be displayed even though the heart is active, but that's a whole other issue.
