chillywilly Posted November 27, 2022 Posted November 27, 2022 I just received RAW files from a photographer in CR2 format, and they came with XMP sidecar files. How do I import the settings from the XMP file as a starting point for my non-destructive editing in Affinity Photo V2? The photographer already saved me a lot of effort if I can just access their settings. Quote
h_d Posted November 27, 2022 Posted November 27, 2022 Search the Help for 'XMP Sidecar', follow the link to 'Metadata Panel', read to the bottom. chillywilly Posted November 27, 2022 Author Posted November 27, 2022 I'm afraid it's not working as expected. I checked the box in Preferences and restarted Affinity Photo V2. Then I opened the RAW file. When I did not see changes, I also tried importing the XMP file. When I click on "Detail" in the Metadata panel, I can see the photographer's settings from the XMP (e.g., white balance, changes to blacks, etc)... but these changes are not applied to the RAW image in the Affinity Basic panels. I'm expecting the image to open with all of the photographer's RAW adjustments applied. Quote

That page says, "When importing metadata, only fields for which the XMP file contains data are overwritten..." Yet it's not overwriting the white balance, which is data in the XMP file as you can see in the screenshot I presented. Quote

What do you mean "other photos?" I'm wanting to see the settings applied to "the photo" with the same name as the XMP file. The sidecar file was created by the photographer for that specific photo. But notice what it says you can import: Quote To import metadata manually from a sidecar XMP file: From the Panel Preferences menu, select Import from XMP>File, IPTC and Rights. And the example it provides for why you might use an XMP file: Quote So, you can create an XMP file that contains info that is common to all your photos, such as author name and a copyright statement, to avoid retyping it. chillywilly Posted November 27, 2022 Author Posted November 27, 2022 OK, so the answer is... Affinity Photo cannot apply the adjustments saved in an XMP file. That sucks. Thanks for answering my questions. Scott Hall 1 Quote
