Using Affinity Designer V2 on an iPad Pro (6th generation).

It looks like without a hardware keyboard, there is no way to power duplicate without having to go to the Edit menu or the Quick Menu each time you want to create another duplicate. Is that correct?

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

Your description seems to be correct. Whether the function is operating correctly (as intended) only Serif can say. It certainly would be more convenient if the Duplicate action remained visible on screen, so you could just click it several times directly.

Thanks for the reply. It's disappointing that my assessment appears to be true.

Much of what I do requires what Affinity calls "power duplicating." It's already cumbersome enough on my iMac that I have to hit Command-J 120 times to get the result I need. But having to go to a menu 120 times on the iPad to access the duplicate command means I won't be using Affinity Designer on the iPad anymore.

Is the nature of the required result such that you can’t duplicate the original 11 times to create a set of twelve, and then group that set and duplicate the group 9 times to create a set of ten (i.e. ten groups of twelve, for a total of 120 copies of the original)?

In Case you need 120 duplicates:

  1. create 10 duplicates
  2. group them
  3. create 12 douplicates

saves you about 120 - 22 = 98 steps, minus a minor extra effort for grouping and 2nd duplicate / adjustments

I suppose it might be marginally faster to do multiplicative grouping, but not by much. It's still a bit ridiculous that a common task like duplicating requires accessing a menu to get at it. It might not be  as common as "undo," but there should at least be a toolbar button or a quick shortcut that doesn't require purchasing a hardware keyboard.

Surely Dower Duplicate menu could be 'pinned' so don’t have to keep reopening. This was requested in V1.

You normally have the move button selected and possibly the transform studio open so see plenty of opportunities for power duplicate,

So put a power duplicate on the move tool context bar which is empty,

or

directly on the transform studio,

or

the double tap on the white control dot which which currently opens up the pop up customisable menu, which already has single finger long press and three finger swipe methods to get there, surely that doesn’t need all three gestures to do the same thing.

All good ideas.

I think I may have an idea as to why there isn't a dedicated button for duplicating. While there's plenty of space to add one with a hypothetical "customizable toolbar" option on my 12.9" iPad Pro, there definitely isn't any open space on my 9.7" iPad. I suppose they created the user interface so that it would work with all iPad models.

The new way of duplicate in V2

You can duplicate easily by clicking on the new cmd/ctrl button (the right button will become blue on the command controller). And then you can tap with your finger on the object you want to duplicate.

Just use Modifier Button.

Could you describe how to power duplicate with modifier button? It would be useful to know.

Sure….could have the option in the Modifier Button, so when you Lock Command…you can Power Duplicate by dragging- but also while holding say 2Fingers on screen, so it will automatically convert any Resize/Repositioning previously made…like what occurs when using the current Quick Menu route.

Could be a Modifier/Gesture-type route.

My misunderstanding. I thought you had a way to currently do this. Yes, I agree, the modifier button could be used. 🙂

Oh I see. 🤣 No was just joining in the conversation…midstream, so my fault I guess. Should’ve added all that to be clearer.
