It's something I truly miss, sometimes we work with large documents at absurd resolutions, we want to simply keep the size but at the same time lowering the resolution, so we adjust the DPI on export.

Missing this option makes exporting a matter of either tweaking the resolution on the document (undesirable) or eyeballing pixels.

Don't think it's that hard to implement the option of exporting by size and DPI, and also having an option to easily export all the artboards, even if the actual size is different, at a fixed DPI.

@nanoSpawn, what is the intended use for the different DPI JPEG files once exported, i.e., if you have a 35,434px  x 11,812px source document at 300dpi what would this typlically be used for, and likewise if exported using the same physical dimensions at lower resolutions, 150dpi, 72dpi etc., where would these lower dpi JPEG files typically be used in practice?

When workin on design, it's quite common to work on fixed sizes and resolution, so let's say 3x1m at 100DPI, but then sometimes I need this same design and proportions for different things. Sending a proof to the client, being a smaller piece at a higher resolution keeping the proportion, etc. and for whatever reason the provider wants me to send a JPG (yes, I've had that happen, let's not discuss file formats now, please, I am well aware), if I'm in a hurry I don't want to deal with exporting to PDF, then converting when it would be as easy and convenient to simply set size in my preferred units and then DPI, instead of typing an arbitrary pixels value or calculating it.

  1. Switch to the export persona.
  2. Switch to the Slices panel (next to Layers)
  3. Expand the existing "background" slice
  4. Select the desired file type preset
  5. You can enter things like "2x" or "0.5x" in the scale box underneath it to export at double or half size (for example)
  6. If you need to override the reported DPI value for the client you can click the button next to that scale box and enter the DPI value to report in the file
  7. Click any of the various export buttons on the Slices panel in order to export the file

How close does that get you to what you need?

Exactly as @fde101 say's, this also allows you to export the file using the same physical dimensions at varying dpi values so should give you what you need in a simple, quick and flexible format.

You can also create a preset which you can then apply to any file of any dimensions, so if you have a set of regular dpi settings you use repeatedly based on client requests you can set these up once, save as a preset, apply the preset and hit Export and you will instantly have your exported JPEGs at the same size with multiple dpi values...
