Sam Neil
Is there a reason why Photo does not have "Image Place Tool" like Designer - This has become such a vital tool for my work flow. Please consider adding it. 4dimage

4dimage
File > place... already works the same way as in the other apps (linked resources if needed +multi placement options 😍). It would be handy to have a distinct icon in the toolbar for quick access like in Designer and Publisher Maybe the developers should think about left toolbar customization for the future. There might by an option to vertically list the tools in more than one column if needed (e.g. because of lower viewport height on notebooks). By the way - they can do that. They already proved it in the header toolbar 😉 Sam Neil 1 Quote Hardware: Windows 11 Pro (23H2, build 22631.3296, Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22687.1000.0), Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-14900K @3.20 GHz, 64 GB RAM, NVIDIA RTX A4000 (16GB VRAM, driver 551.61), 1TB + 2TB SSD. 1 Display set to native 2560 x 1440. 4dimage
By the way - didn't know this. I use drag drop from file explorer to place images almost every time. Holding ALT key before droping the files onto the workplane is a handy workflow. Staff Ash Posted February 15, 2023 Staff Share Posted February 15, 2023 We've made place tool available in Photo as an optional tool to include in your toolbar in the 2.1 beta. It would be great if you wanted to try it out in the beta and let us know what you think - you can sign up to the beta program here. KLivs
Really loving the Place option in Photo, and I think it would be better with a keyboard shortcut and preferences for placement. Maybe I haven't played around with it enough, but I am used to working in InDesign and dropping the image into frames and using keyboard shortcuts for sizing my images (e.g. Fit to Frame or Fill Frame). I am using Photo 2 for editing PSD mockups now, so I double-click the Smart Object, Place the Image, and then have to resize. I use snapping so that it's easier. I'm not sure if another tool in the Affinity Suite would be better for this work, but please consider how you could make Place simpler for such a workflow. Staff Ash Posted March 11, 2023 Staff Share Posted March 11, 2023 You can set up your own shortcut for File - Place in preferences if you wish. But yes, the workflow you describe in some ways might be better suited to Affinity Publisher, certainly in as much as you can have picture frames in Publisher with scaling options set. When you use Publisher you can switch to the Photo persona too (which is basically all the tools in Affinity Photo) so easily switch between the Publisher tools for laying things out, and to Photo for editing / adding effects or whatever. Below are the picture frame options in Publisher. Quote Managing Director Help make our apps better by joining our beta program!
