thomascgass
I've tried to export PNG with transparency, but am unable. Out of V1 it works fine. Is this a bug or am I missing something?
GarryP
Without more information there’s not a lot we can do to help. Can you give us an example of it not working? Can you give us a step-by-step workflow of what you are doing and give details of what you are doing it to? If you can share a document you are having trouble with then we can try it for ourselves. Or, if you can't share a document, then full-screen screenshots of the major steps in the process would be useful.
thomascgass
Hi Garry, thanks for your fast reply! I finally solved the problem Although I set the document settings to transparent background, I didn't save the file before exporting PNGs. After saving the document everything worked like a charm and as I was used to do in V1.
GarryP
Interesting. As far as I know it should have worked without having to save the file first. On Windows 10, I’ve just tried a quick test and exporting to PNG with transparency worked just fine for me without saving the document. If you can give us more information about the contents of the document, and which OS you are using, it might help us to figure out if it’s something that’s worth reporting. thomascgass
Hi Garry sure I'm happy to do that: I was working on a file with vector graphics taken out of a PDF file. The goal was to export single vector elements as PNG to import into Davinci Resolve video editor as overlays on moving pictures. I can attach the file to this posting. As for my system: I'm working on OSX Monterey with AD V2. IKEA Teile.afdesign
GarryP
Thanks for supplying the file. I successfully exported the document as a PNG with transparency. I also successfully exported, via the Export Persona, various Slices of the document as PNGs with transparency. However, that’s after you saved the file in order to supply it so I can’t check the original unsaved document. Is there a way you can try and replicate the original problem and supply a video showing what happens?
thomascgass
Gary, I've tried to replicate the original problem but everything worked like a charm, whether I've exported from the unsaved document with transparent background or after I've saved it. Don't know what happened before, but everything seems to work as expected. GarryP
GarryP
It’s good to hear that it hasn’t happened again but a little bit worrying that it happened in the first place. It could be a symptom of a wider problem. If it does happen again please upload a video showing the problem (if you can) so we users, and the developers, can see what happens. If we can replicate it then something probably needs to be looked at.
thomascgass
I will do so. To know what exactly I did: I opened a PDF file in V2, copied graphic elements, the I used "new from clipboard". In the new file I went to "document setup" and made the background transparent. Then - without saving the file first - I exported one element as PNG and it was not transparent.
GarryP
Do you know what sort of graphic elements you copied to make new documents from? I've tried with a few different types but all looks okay to me.
thomascgass
Well, since I opened the PDF in Designer first, I guess all the elements are just vector graphics, right? I mainly copied icons/clipart.
GarryP
There can be all sorts of things in a PDF and some might not have been re-created as Affinity layers quite ‘properly’. Probably best to forget about it unless it happens again. It could have just been a weird one-off that you never see again.
