AF Publisher V2 for iPad Place tool doesn’t insert picture into the Picture Frame Rectangle. Instead, picture gets placed on the whole page covering all layers.

Recommended Posts

I've been an AF Designer and AF Photo user since 2017 and 2020 accordingly. Thanks to Affinity team for such awesome products ♥️

I was following official presentation for iPad called “What’s New in V2 for iPad”( https://youtu.be/EFqhU8lE-o0) as a tutorial and bumped into a few problems:

1. Why when switching from Photo Persona to Publisher persona after live mash wrap filter applied (at 16:30), my Place tool doesn’t insert picture into the Picture Frame Rectangle? Instead, picture gets placed on the whole page covering all layers?

2. How do I make the keyboard to appear automatically when tapping on search field? (Publisher 2)

3. Why my Picture Frame Rectangle doesn’t have diagonal lines inside when empty?

Thank you!

1- For me it is similar, in that in Publisher at least, Tapping to Place the image misaligns altogether opposed to when in APhoto it places correctly within the Frame. Have not noticed it covering all other Layers though.
Generally, I adhere to traditional Placing of items…Drag out…if it occurs, to ensure proper placement…which also places AutoFlow items correctly as well.

‘But just tapping…at times also notice it places the smallest size of it, based on that tap, instead of full sized one, so resort to dragging instead now.

2- Not sure what search field you mean. If in the Find/Replace it should pop up automatically.
If it is on the Fields (three dots on Panel column on right)- that info has to be entered by you first, but not there.

You have to create a Text Frame…enter the Frame (as if going to type or paste) then select Document (hamburger) > Insert > Fields….and then can select type of Fields to add to the Frame and the Document itself. Then when choosing the 3 Dots on Panel/Fields…the information input will appear.

3- Might want to check that Preview Mode…little window wiper icon between Magnifying Glass And Snap on top right… is Off.

Sorry, I clicked Command+Enter hoping to make a new paragraph but ended up posting just that message above 🙈

Thank you again for your time and help, StudioJason!

  1. After you said Place Picture tool worked well on your end, I decided to try it again. And possibly found out why I had a problem with it. Originally, I was trying to place Picture Frame tool on top of already existing Picture Frame with an image in it. And all those steps from the tutorial didn’t work on my end. But when I opened a new file and created Picture Frame on an empty space, it all worked out fine!

  1. As to the keyboard, I’ll attach a 15 sec video where I was trying to demonstrate my issue.

So, I opened one of the templates and clicked on “october 3-9” text, cursor appeared but not the keyboard. Then I clicked on Stock icon and tapped on search field, — same problem — keyboard doesn’t pull up automatically. But I still can make it appear manually: tap on EN/US icon on the bar at the bottom of the screen > Show Keyboard.

It feels wrong to do these extra steps every time in order to get to the keyboard.

  1. You were right! Unchecking Preview Mode solved my problem!

Glad some things got sorted! Love the look of the project you’re working on!

Are you trying to get the Full size Keyboard?

If so…instead of an inward pinch with 2 fingers, do an outward pinch (away from center)…and a full size key board should remain. Can pinch on keyboard again if wanting it small again.

Watch some Publisher Tutorials on YouTube Channel by Elaine Giles, she covers Publisher really well. Though most of her content is on Affinity V1…the principles and concepts remain the same…and most all of the Tools etc …minus the newest ones of course…but she’s already begun on V2, so won’t be long. She is on Desktop though so keep in mind, few things might not be able to do, but most of it is for certain.

Thank you so much for your help! I just now was playing with the keyboard – pinching in- and outward and it didn't seem to be working. Then the app accidentally quit and after reopening it, I now have full size keyboard! 🥳

Will definately check Elaine Giles channel, thank you again! :)

That’s good at least! The app itself unfortunately crashes sporadically, I think just because is still in 1st Version iteration (even though Labeled as Version 2, is still 1st version on iPad!). But usually…the large, full sized keyboard can be minimized down to the smallest with a 2Finger Pinch inward….and go from small to full sized with the 2Finger outward spread.
