Export as Adobe Illustrator file

Hi all,

Did you guys have a plan to create export as Ai file? Maybe export as eps it's ok, but Ai is better.

Because i'm a Motion Designer base in Indonesia, it's kinda hard to pay for adobe all apps, so i only bought after effects without the illustrator and change it with Affinity Designer. It works but the workflow it's too complicated.

It may gonna make some Motion Designer's change their illustrator to Aff Designer for saving their money, if Affinity can export as Ai with some of the layers that still layered, grouped, named properly as we already organized it in Affinity Designer.

Greetings! There might be some partial workarounds for creating AI files depending on which features are needed. There's some info at the end of this blog post: https://logosbynick.com/open-save-ai-files-inkscape/ (not my blog)

Another solution by using an Inkscape extension.

Thanks for this, while there are several limitations (documented by the author of the script), the script would allow e.g. exporting of highly structured Designer documents with complex layer data, first exported to SVG, to an EPS file supporting layers and to be opened with layers in Adobe Illustrator [though exporting to SVG and opening it directly in Illustrator might be more practical in most situations].

Is Designer's Export to EPS function not working as expected?

I suppose workarounds are needed to be able to create some kind of AI-level interchange of editable data between Designer and Illustrator which would support e.g. layers. Plain EPS does not support that (while "Illustrator EPS", which the Inkscape script writes, does). SVG does, as well, but SVG is always RGB only.
