Will Macros recorded with Desktop APho1 work with iPad APho2?

Recommended Posts

They should work. Assuming they don't use functions that are not available in the iPad version at all.

So that leads to the question, are there user created macros for iPad squirreled away somewhere users can download?

The ones originally made for/on Desktops will work on iPad….we just cannot Record or make them the same way as on Desktop.

Several in Resources Section (or by Search…and on Web).
Also a few on the Affinity Store….but can only alter those as they are preset, not add to them permanently as to include for next time.

Actually, that is the basis of my Mud’s Macros.aflibs library in these forums, which brings features to the iPad (such  as stand alone command inpaint) that were in the desktop version but not in the iPad version, yet with the macros desktop features were implemented on the iPad.

If it works on the desktop it will work on the iPad as all apps share the same core software engine.

So, for one recent example from the forums, you could record a View > Show Pixel Selection on the Desktop and use it to hide/show the matching ants on the iPad?

Just to show I have not stopped, here is V14 which includes adding Warp Groups to Photo stolen from Designer 😀. I have had to zip the macros library because V2 macro file format has changed and these forums have not been updated to recognise V2 file formats yet. So unzip and import to photo on any platform.

Mud’s Macros V14 - Added Create Warp Group

SelectAllLayers - select all layers quickly

DeSelectAllLayers - de select all layers quickly

PencilPortrait - Convert Photo to pencil sketch (Credit: Alpha Sierra,

YouTube)

InpaintCrop2 - Content Aware Crop - fix edges after a straighten crop (Credit: Jim Welsh) As per PS Content Aware Crop.

Inpaint - the inpaint option from the desktop.

Sketch Effect by R C-R - Converts to a sketch effect

Dave’s 6-Layer High Pass Sharpening - Uses 6 layers of sharpening

ExpandStroke - Expand Stroke from Designer

Create Artboard - Create an Artboard from Designer

TextOnCurve - Text on Curve from Designer

Pre-Process - Add a curve and a sharpening layer

FSStack by InAffinity

Wraparound V1.8 by John Rostron

Create Compound Object - Create Compound from Designer

Content Aware Move

Create and refine a selection, run macro, new layer created from the selection and the source area is filled using content aware fill command edit->Inpaint.

Change to 72DPI - Use in a batch job to set every image to 72DPI without resampling

Resample to 72DPI - Use in a batch job to change DPI to 72 and resample image to the new DPI

Create Warp Group **NEW** - Vector distortions from designer

These macros will work on PC, Mac and iPad versions. It is a “.afmacros” library file so in desktop use view->studio->library and import into the library pane not the macro panel which is only for single “.afmacro” files.

Hi Walt, unfortunately that is one of many functions across the three apps that cannot be recorded unfortunately. If you try to record it on the desktop, no step is recorded in the Macro panel on V1 & V2 when I just tried it.

A lot of appreciated responses here, but curious why the ability to export a macro if you cant import one? only a library.

The iPad apps are half the price of desktop apps yet have over 95% of functionality. I for one would be happy to pay desktop price for iPad app if they added those 5% features such as macro record, although it could also be because of differences between iPadOS and macOS/Windows OS

You can import a macro, just not on iPad.

Importing a single macro is a desktop function, provided by the Macro panel on the desktop. The Macro studio on iPad is more like the Library panel in the desktop Affinity apps.
