Troubleshooting install all of Affinity V2 and uninstall all Affinity V1 desktop apps MacOS(downloaded from affinity site)delete plug-ins/migrate v1 to v2?

Recommended Posts

I have a macOS updated to current Ventura software, I downloaded all of my V1 and V2 affinity apps from the developers site.

  • First I installed V2
  •  Migrated V1 into V2  when prompted
  • Then I erased all  V1 apps as best I could from Mac OS

I have yet to see what this did  or any effects this will have if any at all. Im interested in creating as much space on my computer as possible by getting rid of all  V1 package contents, cache, etc.

Can anyone tell me if there is a efficient way to do this manually and with out a cleaner. in my experience the cleaners still tend to leave a lot behind and id like to trash all of the old V1 contents.  I just can’t remember which folders I should check in macOS , any help would be great !

Im also interested to know about the best way to install/uninstall

1) Install/uninstall

A. Did you Uninstalled V1 affinity apps to include photo, designer, publisher, before you installed the V2 version?

OR

B. Did you Install V2 and then uninstall V1 apps after ?

Did you encounter Any problems? did you find a solution?

2) Migrate V1 into V2

A.Did you migrate V1 into V2 when prompted ?

OR

B.Did you decide not to migrate  V1 to V2 and install plug-ins add-ons etc. afterwards ?

Did you encounter Any problems? did you find a solution?

*ANY INFOR YOU ARE ABLE TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE QUESTIONS ABOVE ARE APPRECIATED

Thanks !

I think that's the wrong order. You need to migrate the V1 info into V2 before you delete V1. Otherwise there's nothing to migrate.

You should, I believe:

  1. Install V2
  2. Run it, and accept the migration prompt for each app
  3. Verify that the items that can migrate did (Assets, Brushes, Styles, and a few others)
  4. For items that cannot migrate automatically (Studio Presets and some others) recreate using V1 as a model, or if possible copy files manually.
  5. Use V2 for awhile until you are comfortable that it's working.
  6. Uninstall V1 at some point.

If you are running out of space, step 5 might be shortened as needed. But note that if you are collaborating with other Affinity users who are still on V1, you should keep V1 until they have migrated to V2. If you create any native Affinity files in V2 your colleagues with V1 won't be able to open them,

@walt.farrell Thanks for the response, you are right, I corrected the order to reflect what steps I took when installing.

I also backed up before hand any add-ons, brushes etc., I previously used for my affinity apps. since I don’t collaborate with anyone else and I still have V1 Backed up on an external storage Im not too concerned about presets because I think I may have just went with system settings. I actually forgot about all the extras I have added to affinity. I'll see if they migrated over, I'm pretty good at backing up assets and such to an external ,so it would just require some extra time on my part to add to  V2 but its nice to start fresh since I had been slowly cleaning up the assets I didn’t need . ill be messing with designer and publisher today and ill get back with my feedback.

Thanks Walt!

Hi. Nobody said how to cleanly uninstall Version 1. How do you do that?

I noticed version 2 made it's own folder in the Mac Library. I want to be sure I delete ALL the files associated with version 1 now that I installed version 2.

Honestly, I'm surprised there was not an installer that would ask if I wanted to move version 1 to the trash. That's what a lot of other installers do.
