I am testing Publisher version 2. The long missed Book Function is substantial for me and my hope is that i can finally switch from indesign to affinity. But with the export function there are great difficulties for me. For my test I exported all Indesign files to the IDML Format and loaded them in Publisher.

Unfortunately, the export PDF function in Affinity generates very large files for individual documents compared to Indesign. When I export a book as pdf, the file is corrupted and huge!

I used similar export settings on Indesign and affinity, see attachments.

  • a 2 side document from Indesign to PDF has the size of 3MB
  • the same document from Publisher to PDF has the size of 15MB
  • a Book with 32 pages from Indesign to PDF has the size of 55MB
  • the same Book from Publisher to PDF has the size of 280MB and can not be opened (currupted)

unfortunately i have not found out what the problem is

Hi Ryan and welcome to the forum. I can't see the images you posted, they seem to have disappeared. If you're still experiencing this issue, could you post the images again? And if the images weren't screenshots of your PDF export settings for both InDesign and Publisher, could you post those?

And by a corrupted PDF when you export the Book, what do you mean? The PDF can't be opened? It doesn't appear the way you expected?

Have you upgraded to 2.0.3 and experienced any improvements?

Cheers

Hi Mike,

Since I needed a solution quickly, I contacted the support directly.
The support was able to reproduce my problem with Version 2.0.3 and I got the following answer:

Evidently something is going wrong with the .PDF exporting procedure with linked .PSD files, so i'll be investigating this further using your files and getting the problem logged with the developers.

That means I will have to wait until a new update is released. Before that, a definite change to affinity makes no sense.
