xoneeleven Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 We have been customers since the original beta phase of the gen 1 products. Now that we have installed the version 2 products, we are unable to launch Affinity products from other platforms. For instance, Affinity Photo 2 for PC gets installed to the directory C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\SerifEuropeLtd.AffinityPhoto2_2.0.0.1640_x64__3cqzy0nppv2rt\App When we try , from other applications to "open with", we get a permissions error when attempting to enter the path of the new Affinity Photo directory. Please advise... Quote
Print Monkey Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 I've noticed the same problem. When you try to set up "open with" in another application you find that you can't "open with" a microsoft app store app because the #$%^& thing doesnt have a reasonable way to select it in the file browser. Just another example of why no serious applications should be sold as a super amazing MiCrOsOfT sToRe aPp until this kind of basic everyday expected-to-work stuff gets sorted out. If there's some way that microsoft has provided developers to select microsoft store applications for "open with" functions then pretty much no developer has figured it out....... walt.farrell Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 Serif have announced they will provide an MSI-based installer as an alternative. In the meantime this FAQ may help: RichardMH 1 Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. RichardMH Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 Interestingly, Capture One has got around this problem quite elegantly. Edit With gives a list of applications (basically selected from what you get from right clicking in Explorer) and away you go. No need to specify paths. So it can be done. Seems some app developers have fallen off the pace. Quote
keiichi77 Posted June 14, 2024 Posted June 14, 2024 it is 2024 and the problem still persists. I can't use Affinity Photo 2 with any of my applications what offer the option to continue the work in a photo editor software. Quote

If you are using other applications that have not evolved to be able to support Microsoft Store or MSIX applications, you should speak to their developers. But in the meantime, you can uninstall your MSIX-based Affinity applications and install the EXE/MSI-based versions instead. keiichi77 and RichardMH 2 Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. I'm confused. This version supports what you want. You just need to install it differently due to issues with other applications you want to use. I am sure @walt.farrell knows that is what you are talking about but I'm not sure if you understand what he meant. By 'differently' he means installing the EXE/MSI version of the Affinity app(s). You should uninstall the MSIX version first to prevent issues. Note: I am a Mac user with no direct experience with the two flavors of Windows installers but I have read enough about this in this & other topics to know this is what you need to do if your other app does not (yet) support the MSIX version. keiichi77 Posted June 15, 2024 Posted June 15, 2024 No, I uninstalled the MSIX version and installed the exe version, I understood exactly what he meant, everything is fine. But the other application (ON1 raw photo) doesn't support MSIX, so I sent a feature request to ON1. Although I can use the path of the exe version of Affinity Photo 2 in ON1. Patrick Connor 1 Quote
walt.farrell Posted June 15, 2024 Posted June 15, 2024 Thanks. I did not understand that you asked ON1 for support. I thought you meant you were asking for additional Affinity support. keiichi77 1 Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU.
