Issue with size on text and imported SVG

Recommended Posts

I'm experiencing 2 issues and I can't understand what's happening:

1 - I'm working on the GUI for a plugin and while testing some text sizes I ended up with the size 2.8pt. Then I tried to add another text later on, but for the exact same size visually speaking, I had to make it 13pt. Why is that?

2 - On the GUI I have an X symbol to close a window. Since I'm exporting all the static elements and all the elements that change state such as color, etc, I selected the X, hit COPY and then File > New From Clipboard. When I see that element at 100% it is indeed the size it's supposed to be so I export it as SVG. When I try to import that SVG file back into the GUI, the size is huge. Here's the original (the X on the top right):

When I import the SVG:

I want to make sure that all my files when sent to the developer are ready to just drag and drop and he will not have any issue with adjusting the size

Edit: regarding the size of the X I noticed that the original document is set to 300dpi and it seems that SVG is exported at 72dpi. When I change the value on the original document to 72dpi, everything goes back to normal. Can someone explain why SVG are exported at 72? Is there anything I need to know about these numbers? Should I always work at 72dpi? I know that when I work in Photoshop the resolution is very important, but with vector files is it still relevant?

I can confirm that File > New From Clipboard will always create a 72DPI document, which may explain the differences you're seeing.

When exporting to SVG, you have an option to export using the documents DPI, or manually specifying the DPI for the exported file -

If you set the export to 300 DPI, is the file created as expected for you?

And as a sitenote, in most other third party apps which deal with SVG, the default dpi doc/page setting for common display output is 96 dpi here instead of 72 dpi!
