Is there some (hidden?) way of fitting a text frame precisely to it's contents?

Use case —

  • Create text frame
  • Fill with text
  • Change size of text
  • Align to centre of artboard

Results in the text frame being centred, not the text. Ideally I would

Hi tom-b,

Welcome to the forum.

To change the text within the text frame and adjust the font size the character and paragraph studio tabs, to enable these goto the View > Studio menu.

To centre the text frame in the artboard this is done from the arrange button.

I have attached a screen shot showing the Arrange menu and the Character & Paragraph studio tabs.

Regards,

Darren

Hey Darren! Thanks for replying.

I get those features – but you might notice that if there is a lot of empty space at the bottom of the text frame, the frame is centred, but not the text. With other products, you would click a button which resizes the text frame to the dimensions of the text. That's the functionality I'm looking for! Is there a way to do it?

Hi tom-b,

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

These options are not yet available in Designer. Currently you have to manually adjust the text frame and then center the frame text object. Or convert the text to curves and center it (the text will not be editable anymore).

I advise you to add this to the Feature Requests section, if it's not already there. I believe this was already requested before, or at least a way to center the text vertically within the text frame, which also would help to solve your original question/issue.
