Does anyone know where the setting for toggling auto-scroll to show selection in layers panel is in V2 of designer. It used to be in preferences > user interface, but I can't find it there. I looked through all the other settings and couldn't find it either.

Just for reference. Both versions of Preferences User Interface...

firstdefence: Do you know if the Auto-scroll in the V1 Application Preferences references the same functionality as the Auto-scroll in the V1 and V2 Layer Panel Preferences?

FWIW, in the Mac V1 version it seems to be the same functionality.

On Windows, with V1, if I set the Auto-scroll to OFF in Preferences the Auto-scroll in the Layers Panel was still switched ON, which is why I wondered if they were the same thing or whether I was getting them confused.
I guess it doesn’t really matter now though, for V2 users anyway.

It does matter

In Affinity Designer v1 (Mac desktop)

When using cmd + ] or cmd + [ to move a layer/s in the layers panel the selected layer/s always stayed in view (because the layers bar scrolled with the keystrokes).

For this to work not only had ‘Auto scroll to show selected layers in layers panel’ to be enabled (in the ‘User Interface’ preferences) but also ‘Auto scroll’ had to be enabled in the layers panel ‘hamburger’ menu.

In Affinity Designer v2 (the same Mac desktop)

The ‘Auto scroll to show selected layers in layers panel’ in the ‘User Interface’ preferences has been removed. Consequently when trying to move layers using cmd + ] or cmd + [ the layer/s disappear/s out of view when the bottom end of the (on screen) layers panel is reached (because the layers bar does now not scroll with the keystrokes).

Hey, I like seeing the layer/s I am moving in the layers panel without having to manually scroll to find them after I’ve moved them.

This feature was very useful in enabling accurate movement of layers within the layers panel whilst looking at the artwork (rather than looking at the layers panel) while using cmd + ] or cmd + [ .  The layer click + drag method (which does keep the chosen/highlighted layer in view) has its uses but is much more difficult/awkward/inaccurate/frustrating to use.

I can't understand why they have removed it.

Hmmm. For me, in v1.10.5 of AD, if I enable or disable auto-scroll in either the Layers panel or in preferences, it automatically sets the other one to the same setting -- IOW, it does not matter where I enable or disable it. Do you see something different?

That said, in V2 it is as you said -- even with auto-scroll enabled it does not auto-scroll when using CMD +[ or CMD + ]. My guess is this is a bug that could be fixed without having to add back the (unneeded?) preference option.

v1.10.5 too. Mac desktop Monterey

For me both the auto-scrolls are independent of each other.

Hopefully it's a bug they fix very soon. It's no good giving us shiny new things to play with if they ruin the old ones.

For me, I think they were independent in some earlier versions but that is not true for me in version 1.10.5.

I hope they find these posts. Although I have emailed them directly anyway.

Posting to the bugs forum probably would be the best way to let the developers know about this.
