Volker H. Posted November 13, 2022 Posted November 13, 2022 Affinity V2/ Windows 10 and 11 // Adobe Bridge 2023 I use Bridge as a photo manager, since Serif still has no similar software. For example, to start a “*.jpg” in Bridge 2023 with photo.exe you have to link bridge to affinity photo. 1. Difficulty: You have to find photo.exe. This file is in the Windowsapp folder. But you have no access to this folder. I solved this problem - without a serif! But it doesn’t work. Affinity Photo didn’t launch. 2. Difficulty: I have found photo.exe now, but it doesn't start! Neither double -click nor anything else brings the file Photo.exe to start Affinity Photo: nothing happens!!! I tried to start from C:\Users\-xxxxx-\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps \SerifEuropeLtd.AffinityPhoto2_3cqzy0nppv2rt\AffinityPhoto2.exe but that doesn’t work either (Access denied) With V1 there never was a problem to start Affinity Photo from another application like Bridge I need a solution for that issue – otherwise I have to return the Affinity Suite V2 And I don't understand why Serif changed the installation of Version 1 in that way that caused a lot of trouble! Nigel M Posted December 3, 2022 Posted December 3, 2022 You have used the wrong WindowsApps folder. The correct Photos.exe file is in the C:\Programs\WindowsApps folder. This is a hidden folder for which you will have to enable "view hidden files and folders". Unfortunately that is not the end of the problem. Once you have access to the WindowsApps folder you will need Administrator privileges to change ownership to an administrator account, then change its permissions to "Full Control" After all that, Bridge will work correctly Nigel M Quote

Or you could wait for the MSI-based installer that is coming: Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. c1c3c11 Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 I did everything mentioned when it comes to changing permissions in the WindowsApps folder, but even though Bridge now recognizes the Photo.exe file as Affinity Photo V2, it still refuses to initiate the program due to another permission issue. I have no idea where to go from here. Essentially, no customer should have to go through all these technical hoops in order to fix something which shouldn't have been broken to begin with. Quote

That is not a recommended approach. 25 minutes ago, c1c3c11 said: Essentially, no customer should have to go through all these technical hoops in order to fix something which shouldn't have been broken to begin with. One could also argue that applications such as Bridge should support basic Windows functions such as App Execution Aliases. If they did, users wouldn't have to jump through hoops, and neither would other application developers such as Serif. For you, though, right now you can try the helper application mentioned in the second post of the FAQ above. Other than that, the MSI- or exe-based installers should be available for testing soon. Sorry; Patrick just announced there's a delay in releasing the other kind of installers: Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU.
