Blur Beneath effect

Recommended Posts

As a UI designer, it'd be mighty handy to have a blur beneath effect. I believe it's pretty self explanatory, but just in case it would automatically blur any pixels below it to the desired value. This would allow a much more rapid workflow for testing out UI iterations on different backgrounds, instead of having to constantly adjust duplicate layers with masks.

Hi B4ttleCat, Alphantasma,

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

If you are using Affinity Photo, this is quite easy to achieve with a Live Blur filter and a vector shape used as a vector mask. To create it:

1. add a Gaussian Live Blur filter  (menu Layer ▸ New Live Filter Layer ▸ Gaussian Blur Filter

2. draw a rectangle (or any other shape you want to use) to be used as a mask

3. drag the vector shape layer you just draw over the thumbnail of the Gaussian Blur Live Filter in the Layers panel.

The filter will now only affect the contents below the area inside the vector masks shape.

After you create this "structure/construct" in Photo you can open the file in Designer save it as an afdesign file and still edit the filter Gaussian value there without the need to go back to Photo again or simply copy and paste it in an existing Designer project.
