Three things you like about version 2

Recommended Posts

Thought it would be nice if everyone could make a short list of three things they really like about version 2. Not necessarily ‚favourites‘ in a specific order and doesn‘t need to be new features either, bug fixes and improvements are fine too.
H
ere are three things that make me smile and that l‘m going to use almost daily:

  • Shape Builder in Designer — makes creating shapes so much more fun …
  • Style Picker — great time saver in the drafting phase
  • Upgrade price for everyone and Universal License — great solution to the ‚App Store Problem‘

1 Knife tool in Designer

2 New raw development option (actually this is worth it for me) for Photo

3 Publisher (just seems snappier, but...) Books.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.4
Affinity Designer 2.4.0 | Affinity Photo 2.4.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.0 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

all programs; Sharing of brushes, styles, assets, application palettes etc between all programs. that  saves a bunch of space.

AD Displace filter with having Red/green offset is rad.

APub; Style picker tool

- Quick Grids for layout design
- New dialog in general, especially for preset access
- Brush engine updates quicker (at least on my machine), even with a large pattern layer

  1. Footnotes - an excellent implementation
  2. Universal license - this is huge news and I don't think it's gotten nearly enough attention
  3. Word count - I know this is very minor but I'm glad it's there

I think Live and Compound masks in Photo would probably make my own #1 pick in terms of the new stuff.

The "Deform" (warping) tools in Designer are also a huge win, though they do have a few rough edges that I hope to see ironed out in future versions.

Third is a harder call; it is probably between the shape builder and the fact that you can drag the FX icon between layers in the Layers panel.  That last one may seem like a little thing, but it is a reminder that small things can make a big difference at times, and I did think it was a nice touch that they provided that.

As an iPad user

1. StudioLink

2. the ability to apply Palettes in Color Overlay

3. the ability to apply transparency over Styles (this didn’t work with the halftone styles I work with)

2 and 3 are very specific improvements but they make a huge difference to my workflow now.

1.transform links  aka chain links in Psh

2.hide vs hide others  working together with "select same tagged"  , smells like layer comps of a sort.

3. Displace live fixed , not quiet yet although . Still no control over displace direction .      Still can be used as a slope blur  from Substance designer  (with macro recorded)
