Extending the V1 lifetime? Suggestion

Recommended Posts

Maybe it would be a good move to ensure the OS compatibility of V1 for another 2 years?

No bug fixes, no updates, no new features, just a patch if the operating systems require it in the next 2 years. Maybe nothing needs to be done at all. The customer gains security, time to get used to V2 and Serif has enough time to take care of V2 optimization and get lost confidence back for free.

I've heard from a "little birdie" that as far as the MacOS Ventura bugs with v1 is concerned, there's a certain possibility that it might happen. But no promise or even schedule was given, so no one should be holding their breath. In other words, the actual message for now is that Serif is apparently aware of such issues.

There would likely have to be bug fixes to reliably hold to this promise. Also, can you imagine the outcry if they actually took the time to add compatibility and didn't fix other bugs in the process...

I'd be happy with a year of knowing it will work.

Let's say somebody bought V1 for iPadOS this month and Apple is releasing iPadOS 16.3 next month preventing V1 to run. I'm not a lawyer but EU consumer rights are very strict.

Interesting, do you perhaps have a news article for an example?

Very interesting! Thanks for sharing. I wonder what effect this will have on prices in the EU, where we already pay more than in the US.

We already have plans for v1 OS compatibility patches. I have no idea what time frames / duration are being considered, but we will try to ensure that v1 remains usable for some time.
