Eric Mercer Posted November 13, 2022 Posted November 13, 2022 Just bought V2 Affinity Photo and It will no longer Show Grid either using the Menu or the Shortcut key. Very disappointed.
GarryP Posted November 13, 2022 Posted November 13, 2022 The Grids work slightly differently in V2 to how they worked in V1. You may need to change the Mode from Automatic to Basic to see the grid as you used to. Automatic is now a Pixel Grid – see the Help for more information.
Eric Mercer Posted November 13, 2022 Author Posted November 13, 2022 Yes this works as long as I have Affinity open, but as soon as I shut it down and reopen it doesn't work again. I doesn't seem to save the settings. Each time I have to go to Grid and Snapping and redo it again. Why does it not automatically save the setttings?
GarryP Posted November 13, 2022 Posted November 13, 2022 I thought the Grid settings were saved with each document but I don’t use grids very often. You can save the settings as a Preset but I don’t think there a way to tell the software to use a particular Preset on new documents. However, you might like to try creating a Template which has everything set-up the way you like it and then using that template instead of creating a blank document.
Eric Mercer Posted November 13, 2022 Author Posted November 13, 2022 Thanks, I made a preset but that made no difference. Look like I will have to set it up every time I open Affinity. Bit of a pain.

Try recording a macro as you setup the grid, at least you'll only have to run that instead of poncing around in the grid manager. Here's a very quick and simple example GridSetup.afmacro Microsoft Windows 11 Home, Intel i7-1360P 2.20 GHz, 32 GB RAM, 1TB SSD, Intel Iris Xe Affinity Photo - 24/05/20, Affinity Publisher - 06/12/20, KTM Superduke - 27/09/10
Keith Palmer Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 Show grid, guides and margins doesn't work for me either in V2. I have grid and axis manager mode set to automatic but it still doesn't work (Windows 10). This is the third bug I've stumbled across in brief use, I can't think how many more there are out there on these forum pages. The inability to launch V2 from my DAM in particular, is crippling. I know there are threads with workarounds for some of these problems, but I'm not IT confident enough to write bat files and don't want to make a preset for basic functions that worked fine in V1. So far, V2 has been a disaster for me. I really hope Serif gets its act together. V1 was so good that I didn't expect this.

GarryP Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 Thanks for clarifying. 42 minutes ago, GarryP said: I have grid and axis manager mode set to automatic but it still doesn't work Did you read the second post in this thread about Automatic Grids?
Keith Palmer Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 Sorry my mistake, I didn't change from automatic to basic mode. I agree a grid appears. But when I open a second file in the same session and click show grid, it doesn't show until I repeat the process. I note the discussion about making a preset or macro - thank you, I appreciate all the advice. I'm hoping Serif will fix this though, along with bigger issues that are making Photo V2 unusable in my workflow.

Keith Palmer Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 Not an issue, thanks.I think I was wrong there - if I show the ruler, the ruler appears for the next image and again when I close and reopen a file; after engaging the move tool with the ruler visible I can drag out a guideline in these scenarios. So that seems OK in V2 after all. Apologies to Serif on ths one. GarryP 1
