I have Deleted V2 and Gone Back to V1

Well, an icon designer doesn't necessarily have to be skilled in programming applications. Those are two completely different things. You're comparing apples with … beachballs (of death ;)) here.

No I'm not.

Icon designers have to be paid - so do programmers.

In a world of limited resources, spending money on changing something that isn't broken leaves less money for fixing things that are.

The UI especially on iPad is very bad designed. But you won't hear anything like that from any of the paid YouTube influencers.

First of all, I must thank’s Serif Labs for releasing Affinity Publisher for iPad - years of longing, desperately waiting, that made me nuts and a vining bloke!

So, excuse everybody!

But, thera are some UI design that are strange - an example is ‘multiply flyout’ - place photo from Photos on iPad - totally impossible to see what pictures has been selected for import!!!

Look at Apples UI design compare to Serif - checkmark rules!

Can anybody tell the five pictures I marked in the Publisher UI for import?

Happy amateur that playing around with the Affinity Suite - really love typograhics, photographing, colors & forms, AND, Synthesizers!

Well, I have to second everything that's been said in the first post.

I bought V2 Universal Licence yesterday - tried it and found out I won't be able to use it, probably... I had to update from Mojave to Monterey on an old MBP which I didn't even want to do in a first place.

I know I'm in minority but I am used to light UI - and in V2 this is totally wrong. First of all there is no Alpha settings for UI as in V1. And all the buttons - especially in the toolbars - seems like they are already in a clicked state as opposed to V1. See the attached screenshots.

The contrast in the Layer panel is horrible! I can hardly read the names of the layers.

Export window - why on earth do we need to see the preview of the first page of the document, for example?

But what strikes me the most that three things that bothered me so much in V1 are still there!

Publisher:

1. documents opened in tabs - I close the rightmost tab and the view switches to the very first tab. Doesn't make sense at all.
2. when saving just 1 page as JPEG the suffix _1 is added although there is only 1 page being exported.
3. when saving JPEG with the same name and I want to rename the previous file in the folder, I click on Rename but it doesn't happen. Instead, new file with the suffix _1 is saved.
4. I still cannot export multipage file as separate PDFs. (unless I'm missing something) Come on!

BTW, I tried Dark Mode (which I will probably have to get used to until the light UI is fixed) - it is little better when it comes to toolbar icons but the Layer Panel is still very very bad.

I am very grateful for all the new features and especially for the generous launch licence offer but these UI problems needs to be addressed as soon as possible. Which I guess shouldn't be that difficult, I guess and I hope.

Have you used the 30 day trial version? Unusability of applications due to inappropriate GUI (according to your subjective opinion) can be detected during the first launch.

When a binary control like an on/off button has no inherent point of reference, and depends on the contrast setting of the monitor, and the user's subjective judgement of brightness, it is just bad design.

It was enough to use the principle of the Radio Button, which has been used for decades (which also always has extra reference point, because one of the options is always selected).

Using the contrast/intensity of an element to distinguish the ON/OFF state is inappropriate because this mechanism is and has always been used to indicate the Enable/Disable or Active/Inactive states (in the sense of enabling control of the given element).

I've bought it straight away. I knew about the 30 day trial and I still 14 days for refund if I wanted.

But I wanna have it anyway! I want to support this company and I know I will never go back to Adobe. I love all three apps, V1 at the moment, that it. ;)

So I would buy this licence anyway in the future, it doesn't matter.

Meanwhile I will keep V2 hidden on my hard drive till they do something about the UI/UX issues. 😆

Possibly because the UI designers are young and don't use glasses yet…? O.o

You're aware that you can make the UI font larger in the preferences, right? (All the acompanying bugs notwithstanding for now.)

How to change the font size of the UI, enlarge?

We're just unlucky on Windows.

Přesně tak.

Even though in some places there is improvement, for most parts it's "one step forward, two steps aside, three steps back".

Same here. In the forseeable future my primary work environment runs on El Capitan anyway, so I have to reboot the MacBook into a Catalina partition to use V2. But now that I also have the iPad apps (and an Apple Pencil 1), Affinity v2 will become part of my workflow for certain specific features which can then be flattened and reused in v1 via PDF export.

Mais je vous le demande, peut-on imaginer une police sans sérifs ?

Where is it for Affinity on iPad?

Nowhere. I was talking about the desktop versions.
Affinity on iPad doesn't seem to support the "dynamic text" feature.

You can only change the UI text sizes within the Affinity apps on Macs. On Windows you have to change it in the Windows settings, which will affect all apps, not just Affinity.

Acer XC-895 : Core i5-10400 Hexa-core 2.90 GHz :  32GB RAM : Intel UHD Graphics 630 : Windows 10 Home
Affinity Publisher 2 : Affinity Photo 2 : Affinity Designer 2 : (latest release versions) on desktop and iPad

And on Mac, there is the display zoom feature: System Preferences > Accessibility > Zoom
It offers various customizable options. I've been using within the Affinity suite quite often.

Then there's the 3rd party TinkerTool which lets you change UI font sizes globally, at least for apps that support it. I don't think that Affinity does, though.
(Technically, TinkerTool doesn't "tinker" with anything by itself, it just provides a GUI to certain built-in MacOS features that are otherwise only accessible via Terminal commands.)

I don't care about the icons, I'll get used to them, but the lowered contrast (use of gray instead of white text in dialog boxes, removing colors from icons, below for example) is really silly bad, not good. Makes it harder, slower to use. Look at the join or order icons, the gray ones look so mushy.

"Miter" value box in 2.0 is better though, so bonus points for that.

image.png.81bcd0becd9f972267c2d635c7e43332.png

that lowered contrast can be positive for some and really bad for others. I guess that depends on one’s personal sight. I like that being less invasive when working as I need to fully focus on little nuances of the work I’m doing and I get easily distracted but I get that some other people may need a higher level of contrast.

I guess It’d be great if the user could adait the interface via prefs panel to their needs.
