im using affinity designer and photo on my my macs and when i check fot update on both of them its says version 1.10.5 is the newest version available how do i get V2?? should i buy new licensees???

Yes, 1.10.5 is the latest and last v1 update.  V2 is not an update.  It is a brand new upgrade with many new features.  If you log on to affinity.serif.com you can buy the new V2 apps —either individually or with the new Universal License— or select the 30-day trial.  Hope this helps!

Do I understand correctly that future updates for version TWO will be called '1.xx.x', while version ONE won't receive any additional updates?

Wouldn't it make much more sense to start counting from '2.xx.x',  since the upgrade has been released?

No. Version 2 updates will be called 2.XX.X.

Just this week Serif released new versions of all three version 1 apps (to 1.10.6 > see here). From what I read version 1 apps could receive updates to keep them functional in future OS versions but development of new features goes into version 2 apps.

Thanks for clarifying. Somehow I assumed that Version 1 wouldn't receive any future updates.
