Hi Bob, if you create a new document in v2 are you able to save it without any issues?

If so, is this happening with all v1 documents or just with a couple of specific documents? If you create a new document in v1 and then open it in v2 can you save it?

Mine doesn't. Don't see any posts from Affinity...

They're a bit busy as you can see from the volume on this forum, they've posted a "response time" banner at the top of the forum now.

If you're able to share a document with this version publicly, or through a private dropbox link that you create yourself, I'd be happy to look at it for you while you wait for Serif to have a chance. If you're not able to do that people like me can only offer suggestions.

Is there anything about this document that you could try to change before saving and getting the crash? For example, you might try these things to help narrow down the problem. Back up your v1 file safely before you do any of this.

  1. Are there linked resources? If so, try embedding them and then saving. I know you wouldn't want to do this normally but it's worth a try in the meantime.
  2. If there are linked resources, try embedding them and then making them linked again before saving. That might clear out any previews. I doubt this will help on Windows but it's a known workaround for another issue on Mac.
  3. Open the doc, delete half the pages, and try saving that half. If that works, try opening it, deleting the other half of the pages, and saving that half. It would be interesting if both halves crash, neither, or just one.
  4. Where are you saving to? Perhaps try saving to a different drive. If you're saving to your C drive try saving to a USB drive or vice versa.

MikeTo;

Thanks for your reply but after 35 years in prepress, I think I know how to find issues in files.

It is not up to me or you to debug Affinity software. Should have been tested thoroughly before release. Too many bells and whistles and not enough attention paid to the basics methinks.
