redsand48 Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 I noticed in v.2 that when I paint in a mask with the brush in Overlay mode, it doesn't act as it's supposed to. I cannot paint with white and not have it touch the black and vice versa. In fact, IT DOES NOT WORK AT ALL!! Am I not remembering correctly that it did this in v.1? Or was I still using PS CS6? Dunno. But I've noticed several people complaining about this with regard to v.1. If this is a glitch in the software, it needs to be fixed. I should be able to refine my mask using a brush in Overlay. Quote
Dan C Posted November 24, 2022 Posted November 24, 2022 Hi redsand48, Is the layer transparent or white? Lee Quote
redsand48 Posted November 24, 2022 Author Posted November 24, 2022 Found this video on getting around not being able to refine a mask using a brush in Overlay mode. Works fine but a bit tedious. However, for some reason the simple act of clicking on the mask and converting it to its native black and white, then painting on it with a brush in Overlay seems to be working like it should. Dunno why it didn't before. But this video also works if you're having an issue with the "normal" method. Quote

I should be able to refine my mask using a brush in Overlay. I tried this out myself, since this is a technique I use often to refine the edges of a luminosity mask when doing a sky replacement. It works the same for me as it does in V1. That is to say, I can paint in white or black on a mask in overlay mode. Using white will lighten any grey but not touch pure blacks and using black will darken any grey but not touch pure white Video to show what I'm seeing clip0052.mp4 Quote
