Naming for save ..

In AP V1 the file type (extension) was shown when closing or saving a document .... in V2 only the name is shown any more ( who thought this was an improvement???). Where is the setting to switch back to proper full file names?

Have you tried it in V2 with the English UI, as you did in V1? Mine shows the extension.

That's why I asked for some kind of hidden setting ;-)

OK. All I can say is that my files show the complete name in that message. There's either something odd going on, or perhaps that file doesn't have an extension?

Well ... lets stick to odd ... ;-) ... all my files have extensions 🙂
Good news: it seems to work with your setting (so they did not delete this or changed it to the worse)! Bad news: I have to figure our why not with my fresh installation ... (hate it, when that happens)

Yeah. Inconsistent behavior is not fun with computer programs.

Edit: I've tested in Win 11 so far in this thread. If I have time I can try on Win 10 later.

I'd like to bring this topic up again, since I could not find a solution for the issue:

Missing File Name Extension for certain filenames in image top bar and all other dialogs:

I don't think that's available for Windows. I sure can't find it in any of the Affinity Apps.

For me in APhoto (UK interface) (Windows 11)

JPG, PNG files etc always show the extension, as do ".afdesign" and ".afpub" documents

Only .afphoto documents do not show the extension

 

I expect it is the "same" rules in Designer and Publisher (but I have not checked)

 

 

 

To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

How did you Open each of those files? What kind of files are they, really?

Logically, I think there must be some difference in the files themselves, or in the way you got them into Photo 2.

FWIW, in the tab views it is the same in all 3 of the Mac V1 & V2 Affinity apps -- the 3 Affinity native file type extensions are suppressed but none of the others are.

However, the native filetype extension always shows for me on my Mac in Save dialogs ... even if Automatically Hide Extensions is enabled???

By 'native' do you mean the application's own file extension? Here on Mac OS 11.7.1 I see the .afphoto and .afpub extensions in Designer but not the .afdesign. It is just the own application's extension that is suppressed. So no .afdesign for Designer, no .afphoto for Photo, and no .afpub for Publisher. But the other two will show their extensions.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6 
Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Yes, I meant any of the apps' three native file extensions. I just checked & you are right about which of them gets hidden, but I was not seeing that because changing the setting does not take effect until I quit & relaunch the V2 apps. Do you see something similar?
