Creating and printing an A5 Booklet using Affinity Publisher 2

Hi all, I think I need some advice on the best way to create and print an A5 Booklet using my home printer (ideally from start to finish). I have searched the forums but have been unable to find any help on this topic. I have created a document (in A4 format, I believe? (.afpub file attached)), but when I come to print it, I am unable to get it to print in A5 Booklet format. I have tried all possible combinations in the print settings (my HP LaserJet4250dtn printer supports duplex printing) but no combination seems to produce the required result. I am not sure if I have created the document using the incorrect template, just missing something in the printer settings, or BOTH! Any advice or pointers/links would be greatly appreciated.

I have now managed to resolve the problem for myself. Somehow, in my previous attempts I must have missed a certain combination on the Affinity Publisher 2 print settings panel. I have now stumbled across the correct combination which now prints an A5 Booklet perfectly (I have saved these settings as a print profile).

So, whenever I need an A5 Booklet I just use the standard A4 template to create the document, then select the A5 Booklet profile when I want to print. Easy.

I too have the same problem; can you elaborate on how you fixed it as a pre-set in the print dialogue please? And does it double side on your printer Ok?

I have attached some screen prints of my "Document Setup" and "Print Settings". Hopefully these will help.

Apart from changing margins from 25mm to 10mm, as far as I can recall, I did not make any other changes to settings, I just added content.

The document prints double-sided without any issues.

Compare my settings with yours. Let me know how you get on.

 

pioneer, I need to know, how did you manage to change your user image to something other than the boring alphabet character?

Go to your profile settings and click on the little picture image below the letter in the circle, you can then change it to a picture of your choice. I'm not sure, but you may have to be a member for a certain time, or have a certain number of posts, before you can make changes.

Thanks for this PaulEC. I don't think the ability to change my profile image has been awarded to me yet; I don't seem to have the "little picture image" you speak about (image attached).

Can anybody tell me exactly what I need to do/reach in order to be awarded this "privilege"?

Now I have 4 posts I have been awarded the "privilege". Whoopee!!!

Shouldn't your page preset be A5? Then you don't have to select 'fit to printable' in the print settings and no resizing will take place.

Not if the final output will be A4 and there is just a need to make a smaller proof print. But yes, I think that you are correct. From the posts it seems like the desired output is in fact A5 sized pages.

Hilltop, thanks for your comments. As you suggest, I changed my document setup page preset to "A5" and yes, that produces the same print output as my solution (just means that I need to resize all the content to fit the new A5 format - it has obviously been sized to fit an A4 document). I would assume that your suggestion is the correct way to produce an A5 document and my "solution" is incorrect (even though it does give me the required output). This is the type of information I was asking for when I created the post.

I just need to revisit the entire document now and resize everything... Doh!

Old Bruce, thank you for commenting. You will see that I have taken Hilltop's advice and amended my document setup accordingly. All seems to be producing the required final result.

I have specific problem to print booklet. I create for customer A4 menu to be printed on SRA3 sheets ( it is cheaper ). But now client want to test print A5 menu.

Is there any option to print A5 booklet from A4 document on SRA3 sheets?

Assuming you have 4 pages, my first thought was to use model N-Up.

Pages: 4,1,4,1,2,3,2,3,4,1,4,1,2,3,2,3

Scale: 70,7% (type this in, although 71% is shown afterwards)

Paper size: A3

Double-sided: Flip short side

Model: N-Up

Across: 2

Down: 2

Repeat: 1

Leave the rest of the fields untouched.

After printing you just have to cut and fold the menu.
