awakenedbyowls
Sorry I don't know where else to put this thread I just went on the Apple Store to look for the new Affinity apps and I did a search for "Affinity Designer" and what the search filters throw up? Adobe + other graphic designs apps. No Affinity! Nothing. Nada. You guys at Serif know about this? Did this happen because I already have Affinity on my iPad? Still doesn't seem right because I was searching for the 2.0 apps. These can be found through a more specific search though like "Affinity Designer 2 for iPad". I could speculate another reason why I think this happened.. Anyone else seeing this when they do this search? Scapa
Staff stokerg Posted November 10, 2022 Staff Share Posted November 10, 2022 Hi @awakenedbyowls, Try searching for Affinity Designer 2 and it should then show up

A search for "Affinity Designer" should show both the 1.0 and 2.0 Apps at the top of the search. I noticed also a more refined search also throws up Adobe as the first result. Just letting you know, I guess you might have already been aware. I don't know if this is because Adobe are paying Apple for the advertising, but there is also an ethical dimension to this - not least for software developers but for customers who are looking for something (and not finding what they are looking for because Big Tech rules the world)

So now, you would need to search for Affinity Designer 2 for it to show up.

fde101
It should really show up without needing to type the "2" - as it was a very new release I had initially assumed the App Store indexing was still catching up. Sometimes new releases take a while to start showing up in the search results, much as updates don't always get listed in the "Updates" section for everyone at the same time. However, it does seem like it has been long enough by now? Scapa and awakenedbyowls
awakenedbyowls
Thank you. I guess Adobe/Apple are getting worried about the competition. I might therefore posit that this was not an oversight.

I think @awakenedbyowls point is that if you do a search for Affinity Designer you do not get Affinity Designer in the top results. Instead you get CorelDraw, Vectornator, VisualDesigner, Canva, Tutorial for Affinity Designer, QuarkXpress, Graphic and then tada Affinity Designer 2. It's a fair point. Affinity, you should take this up with Apple. It is as though Affinity Designer does not exist. If you searched for Ford Escort would you expect every other brand to be listed in the results first? awakenedbyowls
awakenedbyowls
I wonder what the rules on monopolies would have to say about this?
Scapa
@stokerg I don't want to tell you how to run your business, but quiet honestly - as posted here - forcing the user to enter the "2" (version number) to their search term in order to find what they are looking for WITHOUT having to scroll to entry 52 (Photo) or even higher (Designer) - which I doubt many will do, if any - is both lost (gain of) market share and missed revenue. In fact you are pushing potential clients towards the completion - which rank much higher for what should be YOUR search term! Again, that's not our (users) call, but being a developer myself I can't see why I would take that hit. I hope this doesn't sound rude in any way - at least it's not meant to!
