Our licenses have always been sold as a version license - purchasing V1 entitled the user to updates for the duration of that version, and V2 was always planned to be a paid for update. This is information we have been providing since we first began selling the apps, and has not changed. For example: here in 2018 & here in 2019 - including in our previous emails etc.
