Fact is: I bought 2.0, although probably the only new tool I will use will be the shape constructor.

But I hope that by buying it, I have contributed to making functions such as the trace in the designer possible.

How can you make it clear to Serif / Affinity how important this function is to the community?
It is the great advantage of this company that it is small and flexible enough to listen to the wishes of the users - I hope they also use this advantage.

You don't have to. The topic has been extensively discussed in these forums and it is impossible for Serif not to have noticed these requests. At one point in the past it was explained by a staff member that they will release such a feature only if they are convinced they have developed a very good tracing engine. Obviously they haven't to date that is ready for release.

There are so many alternatives to get this job done.

I remember asking a few times every year or so apart about auto trace & got the same 'we are looking at X to make sure'. been a user since the very beginning in the beta stages. really disappointed it still is not a feature

I know many will say 'oh its not a feature everyone uses', blah blah bloody blah.
but thats such a shite deflective argument, since there are many features users dont use within the software, but its still feature

PLEASE SERIF, PUT IN AUTO TRACE!!!

it is highly important & helpful for artists that draw on paper & want to transfer & would rather not go from one software to the other.
if a free piece of software can do it, you can

PLEASE SERIF, PUT IN AUTO TRACE!!!

even if its not 100% & I needed to do a bit of editing, id be happy, since updates can tweak out the bugs & make it better thru updates, id be fine with that.
as long as I knew that I could have auto trace & not go from one software for one specific feature, to then bring into designer. I would be super happy.

PLEASE SERIF, PUT IN AUTO TRACE!!!

also thru having it in & it may be buggy, you at least will have people to report back saying 'oh this is a wee bit off, here is my file to test out & I have a screencast to show what's gone wrong'. that helps.
again, having it & working on it is better than completely ignoring it & sending others away because you choose to not talk or say anything about it.
user retention is the key & talking about it openly is helpful to yourself & the community

PLEASE SERIF, PUT IN AUTO TRACE!!!

I know Vectormagic.
It is the tool I am currently using. But it is something other than an integrated workflow.
I'm sure there's a specialised solution for every little shortcoming in the Affinity programmes. But it involves importing, exporting, compatibility problems, formatting etc. every time.

It is this seamless approach between tools that makes Affinity programmes so enjoyable.

Autotrace has been a part of Illurator forever and is surely an import part of any vector based app. In Illustrator it can be a bit random but, like others here have said, at least it gives you something within the app to work with and get to know. I'm disappointed that it's not already apart of V1 let alone V2.

Having ditched Adobe for Affinity some years ago, for lots of reasons, it's important for usuers/supporter of Affinity to be heared. Do we have to come to Nottingham to bang on some doors?

I remember before Illustrator had Autotrace, and if you wanted this feature you had to buy Adobe Streamline which was around $199 - same with illustrators Vector 3d capability: Adobe Dimensions which was pretty expensive if I remember right - I use ImageVectorizer for my autotrace needs - I'm guessing Serif will only add Autotrace if they can make it great - Personally, I've not managed to get anything usable from InkScape and VectorStylers auto trace is quite a bit better than Inkscapes but not as good as Illustrators, although VS is always improving - hopefully get this in Affinity at some point?

THIS has been asked for since 2014….as others have pointed out, if I may paraphrase ….

It is incomprehensible and disingenuous AT BEST… to suggest this is NOT one of the TOP requests coming from those using or /continually forced to use ILLUSTRATOR BECAUSE OF THIS MISSING FEATURE.

I would venture to say in my peer group 100% of them have needed, used, or would use this feature. It’s a no brainer.

OK …I get it…. that “you” claim that it will not be released until “you” are satisfied…..but maybe many if not most of us would be happy with a product that was 75-80%  “there”….. and willing to accept a caveat that this function is available  “as a work in progress”.

Is it really true that AFTER 8+ YEARS your engineers/designers do NOT have a viable working option? After ALL of the AMAZING improvements that have evolved in this timeframe?…on all of the suite?

BS.

…when SO MANY other viable work arounds from lesser companies abound?

BS.

I (we) LOVE the Affinity family…but this ONE THING borders on INSULT.

There is a specialised program for autotracing called Vector Magic. It has a good reputation but it costs about twice as much as a universal licence for all 3 Affinity apps.

Thanks for the suggestion…and (but) I would venture …. this is just me….based on my peer group….in the good ole USA….. that the raison d’ être of AFFINITY for us in the first place, is the AFFORDABLE subscription-less suite of FULLY INTEGRATED PROFESSIONAL tools that free us from the exploitation and shackles of a company whose name derives from “A building material consisting of clay mixed with straw or dung” …(your amount of dung may vary) .

So…not a viable solution in many cases.

AND….if you WERE “WORKING ON IT”…. wouldn't AT LEAST a beta version have be offered by this time to gauge community opinion/desire…?
If not WHY NOT?

Honestly Adobe Capture is not good for text/logos.
Also it has only few controls.

Potrace or VTracer work better for text/logos.
Actually VTracer often works better for pictures as well.

Good to know …I personally will peruse them….that being said, IF you ARE all-in with the EE….their syncing font libraries are pretty good for most projects.

I HOPE Affinity’s vaporware “Capture Killer” arrives as a robust full blown Persona at this late date……🥱🙄

I would appreciate it very much too if there would be auto trace in the next V3.

Considering v1 and v2 were something like 8 years apart... You are a very patient person.

Thanks for the powerful reminder of capabilities I don't have without returning to the Evil Empire ( or a lot of frustrating time consuming hassle)

…for the record, Adobe Capture is free to use also.

the other benefit to having a standalone vector trace app is being able to capture (see what they did there?) stuff while being out and about. I can trace on my phone vs waiting to get back to my iPad/desktop. I actually hope that if Affinity ever gets around to autotrace, they give us a standalone mobile version of that as well. I can handle the launch day discount on that app too! 👍
