William Overington
When you post your work in the Share your work forum, what are the size, aspect ratio and permissions of your Share your work posts and do you take consideration of standard print sizes into account? For example, here in the United Kingdom, one can get hardcopy prints made by some custom greetings card businesses and by an online virtual print house in various standard sizes. These could be a print or could be on the front of a custom greetings card. So these days I tend to make much of my artwork at A3 size and if the colour goes to the edge I add bleed areas. This is so that if I decide to get a hardcopy print then I can produce a PDF document without needing to do any adjustment of size or aspect ratio. If you post something in Share your work, what is your view of whether someone seeing your work would like to send for a hardcopy print, perhaps to frame and display in his or her home? Do you choose a size and aspect ratio to facilitate that? Do you feel that the person should not do that, or should send you a private message to ask, or do you feel that anyone can print it if they choose? Do you have one policy for one artwork and a different policy for another artwork? There are issues of copyright and also of the reason for printing. For example, at one extreme is that someone admires your work and wants to print two copies, one to keep in an archive and one to frame and display at home, and the other extreme of someone wanting to make lots of copies and sell them for profit. Two very different scenarios, Do people sell a licence to print copies of their artwork? Do people sell a licence to print two copies? All of this in the contexts that some people in this forum are hobbyists, some are producing artwork trying to earn a living, and some (maybe just me 😀) trying to produce artwork to put forward an invention.
