GarryP
Can you give us some idea about what you mean by “split”? More specifically, what do you start with and what do you want to finish with? Arp_148
PixelPest
Depends on what you like to have in the end: Probably take the the "Segment" tool. Arp_148

More specifically, what do you start with and what do you want to finish with? I have drawn a circle (with the picture frame ellipse tool). And I want to break it up - like make the line just reach say 170 degrees (vs. 360 degrees). I dont need much precision though.

I havnt heard of any segment tool. Tried using the node tool though, but there doesnt seem to be a delete option (-) like with adobe products. I onbly manage to add nodes. Or have I missed something entirely here? hopefully ! =)
GarryP
Here are some samples drawn by different circle-related tools (each tool gives various options for making different, similar shapes). To find out how to use each tool search the Help for the name of it (given in my image). If you can’t see the tool in the Tools Bar, use menu “View → Customise Tools”. Once you have the shape you want you can use menu “Layer → Convert to Picture Frame” if you want to. Arp_148
G13RL
You can convert your circle into a "Donut" (or use the Donut Tool directly: set "Start Angle" to 0° and "Total Angle" to 170°. Don't forget to set "Hole Radius" to 100% to have only one line. Arp_148

Would probably be better to use the Ellipse Tool, rather than a Picture Frame Tool, if you just want an ellipse.
