Transferring Rich Text from a Google Document

Just a curiosity, but I'm unable to transfer Rich Text from a Google Doc, but can easily do it with Microsoft Wordpad, eg this is an italics and bold face test PLUS HIGHLIGHTING transferred from Wordpad (highlighting does not transfer from Wordpad).

In some things, I prefer to work in Google Docs and then transfer to Affinity Publisher. But can use Wordpad if necessary.

What kind of transfer: copy/paste, open, place … ? – Possibly a lack of Google Doc?
