how to match document/artboard size to current art

Recommended Posts

Hi!  I usually use AI and in there, I can choose "match artboard to art dimensions" and it will change the size of the board I am working on to exactly what I've created.  This is helpful in letting me see all of what I have created (I often copy paste/reflect objects to make patterns) on white or on a specific color.  So, I have two questions:

1. how to i get things that are off the current document size to be visible, even if they are off document

and

2. how do i match the document size to the selected art?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Colette,

We are working on a Pasteboard area as mentioned on the roadmap, which would allow you to move objects off the canvas and still be visible.

With regards to matching document size to selected art, you could copy a selection then click File>New From Clipboard which would give you a new document with only your selection and a canvas to fit.

We can do this to a certain extent now using ARTboards. They were only recently added in the last update.

While not fully flushed out as of this release, you can......

Position object off of the artboard. Items that are partially off the artboard will be clipped by it's border (kinda nice), but will show up fully if completely outside the page.

Also....

I don't believe you can select a bunch of artwork and resize an existing artboard to fit. But you can select art and make a NEW artboard to those exact dimensions.
