Purpose: Fixes

Status: Incremental bug-fix track on 1.4

Requirements: Purchased Affinity Photo

Mac App Store: Not submitted

Download: Here

To use this beta, simply download the file from the link given above and double-click on the file to open the installer. Follow the instructions to install the beta version. The beta sits alongside the Mac App Store version and will not interfere with it.

This is an Incremental Bug-Fix release - it should be considered more stable than the current MAS version (1.4) and should be used in preference to that build, if you are experiencing any of the problems listed below.

Fixes

- Fix for random crash when using PNG file export

- Text improvements (leading, justification and Paragraph panel improvements)

- Fix for certain text shortcuts not appearing in the customisable list for keyboard shortcuts

- Fix for PDF export failing when the document included specific dash patterns (usually imported from AI/PDF source files)

- Numerous PDF import fixes

- Numerous vector export fixes (PDF, SVG, etc)

- Fix for logic relating to copy/paste of layers and Artboards

- Fix for spelling languages failing to display correctly

- Fix for TGA files coming in flipped sometimes

- Fix for incorrect application of adjustments with blend modes

- Fix for snapping gutters not working if one was set to zero

- Fix for moving views between retina/non-retina screens not updating whether a retina draw was required for that view or not

- Added missing keyboard shortcut for switching between views

- Disable 'save' menu item for documents which have not been modified or cannot be saved

(Fixes from 1.4.1 Beta 1)...

- Fixed crashes when loading a document which has been saved in Quick Mask mode.

- Fixed crashes when using documents in the ProPhoto colour space in Mac OS X 10.9.5.

- Fixed stroke clipping / invalidation issues.

- Fixed crashes when loading documents saved with “Delete Slices” history items.

- Fixed weird zombie-open-dialog when starting the app.

- Fixed crashes when using calibrated monitor profiles with high-accuracy LUTs.

- Fixed layer “Expand” buttons disappearing in Mac OS X 10.8.

The 1.4 beta 2 description is somehow related to the Affinity Designer.

You write "Requirements: purchased Affinity Designer".

I guess it should be "Requirements: purchased Affinity Photo".

You write "Fix for logic relating to copy/paste of layers and Artboards".

Isn't this an Affinity Designer feature?

Best regards

BlauerClaus

I slipped up and accidentally wrote Designer (I did think I'd typed Photo!), sorry...

Regarding the art board functionality, you can obviously open your Designer documents in Photo and you'll get this new art board behaviour now, so I figured it was worth mentioning :)

There's no need to 'give up' on things at all :) - our aim is obviously to resolve every bug or inconsistency - but our team is only small, so we have to do things in order... The order is usually how badly they affect people and then how many people are affected. I know the crop tool is going to be rewritten soon, so hopefully that will sort that one out for you :)

Thanks,

Matt

There are also two UI issues I´ve posted some time ago:

- File > Export (for example PNG), click on "More" and the huge dropdown extend down beyond the OS X Program bar and the "close" button almost is hidden (happens when AP/ AD are not fullscreen)

- When there is the transform panel (or any panel) opened below the layers panel and one clicks on the adjustments or filter list, the list does not automatically extend all the way up, but starts at the bottom of the lower panel (transform panel) and one has to scroll. I´ve a link to that "Filter drop up" in the PDF linked in my signature.

And the File Export Dialog with the calculation of the file Size is still unresponsive and lacks the option to enter the file size fir a JPG and let AP calculate the minimum compression. And In the PNG output the PNG 8/24 box looses it´s text while changing other settings.

And the resolution of slices should be editable independently from the document resolution (not the ratio but the dpi) but I think that´s a general thing that will be improved later along with the whole export persona?

All these things occur both on my macbook and iMac so I don´t think they are hardware specific.

And then there are the small touches like inverting the logic of quick mask mode (MEB´s aware of that and I´ve got a link to that in my PDF as well as an option to simply merge two masks) and also alt+klick on a mask could produce a black mask. And these two lines with shortcuts and above that this empty line that also remains while toggling off the toolbar (cmd+a+t) which takes away space....

Ah and this really annoying behavior that pressing the same shortcut key twice toggles between the subsetted tools and you get the pixel tool although you wanted the normal brush, there should at least be an option to only get this behavior with shift + shortcut.

And there is the vector scope that has no skin tone line. (also linked to in my PDF)

And I also really see the point in the request of some that want to rotate the canvas with a shortcut + dragging the mouse up/down if they don´t have a trackpad.

Clipping Preview in curves and threshold preview in the Unsharp Mask are also things that would fit into this "it´s the detail" section which I´m looking forward to seeing refined!

Custom rotation centre is not working at all in a document made from an imported .PDF page… AP just ignores it and uses the default layer centre instead (and also rotates the custom centre along with it :P ), what gives?

I created a new document with the same dimensions and pasted the troublesome layer into it and, lo and behold, the custom rotation centre is working again. If you wish I can send you the faulty .afphoto file so you can give it a spin (ha!) and check what's going on.
