spinhead
I'd like to split the attached file into individual shapes to be filled with color and effects individually. No clue how other than lots of manual fussing. Thoughts? I'm sure this will turn out to be fairly straightforward, but my health has resulted in some ongoing cognitive issues and I have long stretches where thinking in a straight line is tricky. Art helps, but sometimes, y'know, it's the problem. split-lines-at-all-intersections-and-create-fillable-shapes.afphoto
NotMyFault
The fastest way would be to manually re-draw 1/8 th of the area as closed curves of 3 or 4 nodes with the pencil tool. then group these shapes, and duplicate mirror horizontally move at the top or bottom side repeat the process (but in vertically direction) Below the result split-lines-at-all-intersections-and-create-fillable-shapes fill.afphoto Quote Mac mini M1 A2348 LG34WK950U-W, calibrated to DCI-P3 with LG Calibration Studio / Spider 5 iPad Air Gen 5 (2022) A2589 Special interest into procedural texture filter, edit alpha channel, RGB/16 and RGB/32 color formats, stacking, finding root causes for misbehaving files, finding creative solutions for unsolvable tasks, finding bugs in Apps. spinhead
Ah, sensible; but prosaic. Yes, that's probably the solution; thanks @NotMyFault But if anyone has a direct answer to the question, for my future edification, that'd be interesting as well. PixelPest
If Affinity´s Divide feature isn´t that buggy it would be: Add a rectangle to the page/canvas size - add select everything - go Layer Geometry->Merge curves - then Layer Geometry->Divide

spinhead
@PixelPest That's excellent. What are the three steps in Inkscape? I may download it again for cases like this.
PixelPest
1. Select your line work and go Path->Combine. 2. draw a large rectangle around the compound path - 2a. send it to the background 3. select rectangle plus compound path and go Path->Division - (3a. delete rectangle)
spinhead
Thanks @PixelPest. I haven't used Inkscape since v0.9 so I'm looking forward to seeing how it works now.
