Grey is not grey is not grey in Affinity ... it is ... magic!

I am not sure if this is a bug in APu or AP or both or by design?

1. Create a CMYK document in APu. In my case with ICC PSO Coated.

2. Convert a 8bit RGB image to Grey 8bit D50. It does not matter which Grey ICC profile and save it as .afphoto.

3. Export this image as 8bit Grey TIFF using the preset for it.

4. Place both images linked in your CMYK document.

5. Open Resource Manager in APu and look at the images.

Results: The .afphoto is Grey, the TIFF is CMYK.

6. Export the document Press Ready and open in Acrobat.

Result: The .afphoto is CMYK, the TIFF is Grey.

Now the Magic! :D

7. Export from AP as TIFF again and have it automatically updated in APu.

8. Revisit Resource Manager.

Result: The TIFF is now also Grey ... Magic!

Hi @joe_l,

When i first place the exported TIFF the Resource Manager reports the TIFF as having an sRGB IEC61966-2.1 and a Colour Space of CYMK.  When i re-export this and have Publisher update the placed TIFF, the Resource Manager reports the ICC Profile as sRGB IEC61966-2.1 and the Colour Space is now RGB.  So i can't replicate exactly what you show in the screenshot, but agree something odd is going on here.  We do have a similar  issue logged but that's for when working with unprofiled images.  I'll poke this a bit more and get something logged with the Dev Team :)

Adobe will, in certain circumstances, override embedded profiles.  There are also situations where it may assign a different prodile than actually written to the file.

If you have a test file this works on, I could see if that's what's happening here.

Affinity Designer & Affinity Photo on Windows 10.

I manage print from typesetting to preprint to final print & finishing at an Ottawa-area print shop.  Have questions?  Feel free to ask!
