Seikilos
Hi, I have the following layout You see a small text frame linked to a medium one linked to a big one. The Title Text Style has numbering enabled because I need numbered titles. Now I wanted to make something fancy and have only the number being placed in the upper text box. At the cursor location as seen above I inserted a frame break, but the outcome is not as intended: The frame break directly after the number creates a new title entry, similar to pressing enter. Is this as designed, or a bug? When I delete the frame break and add a line break (shift+enter) I get almost the desired behaviour (I assume because this does not break into a new paragraph). When I make the top most text frame smaller, then the line-break gets overflown to the next text frame and it is correct: (in this image there is a line break after the automatically added number 1 and the title. The topmost text frame was reduced in size to make this happen. I can live with it but if I slightly modify the font or the text boxes this approach might break the appearance which I consider to be not a very robust workflow. Is there another way to have a less error prone workflow on this type of layout? Quote Affinity User on Windows
Old Bruce
The numbering occurs with each paragraph. So a line break is what is needed. What I would do is set up the Paragraph Style for the header to have a left offset and perhaps a first line indent as well, then the need for two or three Text Frames will not be needed. Old Bruce
Here are some pics and a file with the two Paragraph styles. GretsA
Hi All, I'm testing Affinity Publisher as my company is considering a switch across to it from Adobe InDesign (the entire suite in fact) and I had a query regarding the numbering in text styles. Is there any way that the numbers for headings are able to follow on sequentially from the previous heading without linking the text frames? This is a great feature of InDesign that it recognises an unlinked text box and the section number follows on and updates accordingly. Have tried updating the text style settings but there doesn't seem to be a 'continue from previous number' option. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Yes, you can do this with a global list. You'll find the steps to do this in the free Publisher manual I've shared in the forum (link is in my signature) in the section titled "To create a named list for global numbering" (it's on page 93 of the 2.3 edition). In a nutshell, set the list name and use the same name for every paragraph that should be numbered in that sequence. You also have to set Restart Numbering to Manual Only.
