Affinity Publisher & MacOs Photos App

Recommended Posts

While designing a book with Publisher I like to import my images mostly from my Photos app library.

Doing so is a pain as it it seems like the abilty to do so is pretty random.
Sometimes the library appears in the media section and and sometime it doesn't - without of changing anything.
Even worse is, that sometimes the library appears and after a few seconds it disappears again.

This behaviour is not solved by restarts.

I don't use the Apple photo folder & library (it contains just 2 jpgs), so I just guess / wonder …

a.) whether you have activated access rights for Affinity as required: https://support.apple.com/en-in/guide/mac-help/mchl244f2895/mac

b.) or whether the hint in the "Place..." dialog of APub (10.14.6. Mojave) "Open Photos to see ..."  is because I have not set a.) accordingly. (Just opening the app doesn't make a difference here)

I can't ativate access rights for Affinity as it doesn't appear in the corresponding settings (unlike the Adobe SW).

As I wrote sometimes I can use the library and sometimes not. When the dialog is open I can just click on another folder and go back to "Media" - after 2 & 3 attemps i can select images from the library.

This system preference appears confusing to me, too: It offers C1, ID & LR but not Photoshop and APub & APhoto but not ADesign.
– Do you have set one of the two optional limitations offered in "Weitere Optionen …" ?

I did another trial in AD for "Place…" with "Photos" selected and got new, different events in the dialog that also made AD appear in the access list now. – It seems that Affinity has to "require access" to make its apps appear in the security list. – So it is strange if you experience it as working in APub occasionally without having APub in this list.

• How about other Affinity apps in this list on your mac?

EDIT:  Have you tried to reset permissions for your user "Home" folder in macOS?

A more recent article "Should we ever repair permissions" (2022) by the same author is perhaps more interesting, especially its final reference: "Betteridge's law of headlines is an adage that states: «Any headline that ends in a question mark can be answered by the word no.«" … which I understand as Apple wants users less than before to repair permissions – while it remains unclear in what situations it can help or not:
