Data Merge layers priorities

Recommended Posts

Hello, I would like to insert a background behind the Data Merge but there is a priority conflict between the layers and I don't know what to do.

The first piece attached is before the Data Merge and the second is after the Data Merge, we can see that the background passes over the card illustrations.

Hi @Talek welcome to the forums,

It looks like the card illustration layer which is used when generating the merge is no longer being treated as a master page layer after the merge has been generated, causing it to appear below the master page on the layer stack.

Could you provide me with all relevant files so I can investigate further? I've provided a private dropbox link below if you wish to upload there.

Cool, thanks, I upload it. I emptied the rectangle and put a frame because I needed to work around the problem while waiting, but as you can see, it does not work correctly on pages that are not filled with maps.

Thanks for sending over the files, this looks like a limitation of the Data Merge Layout tool when used on a master page, the data merge layout layer is not retaining it's position within the layer stack or it's master page status once the merge is generated, causing the Rectangle fill layer to appear above it and covering the content on each page. This appears to affect all pages after generating the merge excluding the last page of records (for some unknown reason).

The simplest workaround for this would be to not work on master pages for the data merge layout, but copy/migrate the content over from the master pages onto normal pages after clearing the existing masters on each. This will then prevent the layers order moving when the data merge is generated, i've privately messaged you a version of the file which generates successfully using no master pages.

I've been able to replicate this behaviour on a separate file, and i'll confirm internally if this needs logging with the development team.

Thanks to you! I hope this bug will be fixed soon.
