Hello, I recently installed the "Futura Black BT" font on my computer to create a logo for a client. The customer wants the font to be italicized because the font is italicized in all applications. The problem is that in Affinity Designer it is not possible to set the font to italic. Even if I copy the font in the correct format (italics) e.g. from Word, it is not transferred to Affinity Designer in italics.

Do you have an idea or know a way how I can set the font to italic?

Welcome to the forums @p.bartelt

The Affinity applications will only let you use italics if you have the italic version of the font installed.
Word processors will often ‘spoof’ an italic font when one doesn’t exist by skewing the glyphs to make it look italic-ish.
If you don’t have the italic version of a font installed then you will not be able to use that font italicised.

Can you check to see if you have the italic version of the font installed and, if so, give us a screenshot showing proof of this from your font manager or similar?

If you don't know how to check if the font is installed then you will need to tell us which operating system you are using so we can help further.

You could skew the text in the transformpanel.
Or skew the letters in the characterpanel.

You will never get the same result. See attached screenshot, where the correct italic is grey and the skewed is cyan. In worst case depending on the font, italic characters look totally different to the regular characters. So best advice is to install an italic font if possible.

But you should get a result like the one provided by other applications if they are providing fake (spoofed) italics, as seems likely from the description in the first post.

There is no italic font style for FuturaBlack.

Microsoft Word, for example, also shifts only on the horizontal axis to substitute a non-existent italic font style.

And italicised, the FuturaBlack looks quirky in the truest sense of the word.
