hello,

I'm having real trouble with merging curve layers in AD.

I'm no expert and still learning. I'm trying to merge layers so there is one layer with one curve.  I can't seem to get this right. the advice is to select the layers from the layers panel and click on 'merge selected'. This doesn't seem to be an option in the layers panel at all?? Through trial and error I found through tools and then geometry I could 'merge curves'. Whilst this action works in part, it actually hollowed out some of the solid shapes leaving an outline. I want those shapes to remain filled. I can't figure this out. What am I doing wrong???

Any advice would be much appreciated.

thanks -Sandy

Welcome to the forums @Sandytech

Merge Curves seems to be what you need (Merge Selected is for raster layers).

Hopefully this will help:

  • Some curves will be drawn clockwise and other will be drawn anti-clockwise;
  • The direction in which a curve is drawn affects how it is filled;
  • When curves are merged they become part of the same layer but some may be drawn in a different ‘direction’ to others;
  • Because of this, when curves are merged, the software cannot know your intention of how the fill should be calculated when these directions ‘work against each other’.

If the fill doesn’t look right then you can try using menu “Layer → Fill Mode” and switching the mode.

If it still doesn’t look right then you may need to merge the curves differently to get what you want, and we would need to see the design to get a better idea of what you are working with.

Note: When you merge curves there can only be one fill shared by all the curves, they can’t be different colours.
