If the Affinity apps are crashing when typing into the Font selection box please uninstall the following updates dependant on your version of Windows:

Windows 11: KB5017264KB5017267KB5017271, KB5017859, KB5018341KB5018546KB5018859KB5020695KB5020617
Windows 10: KB5013887, KB5017262, KB5017266KB5017858, KB5018329KB5018543KB5018544KB5018545KB5020613

Some users have also reported crashes/issues when placing images, updating resources, adding pages, amending table columns and converting colour profiles. If you're suddenly experiencing crashes when performing actions which worked previously it is also recommended that these updates be uninstalled.

If you're unsure on how to uninstall these updates, please follow the below:

  1. Press the Windows Key + R and enter 'Control Panel'
  2. Go to 'Uninstall a program'
  3. Select 'View Installed updates'
  4. Find the associated KB number, right click and select 'Uninstall'
  5. Restart your PC

On Windows 11 you may need to press the Windows Key and search for 'Uninstall Updates'. You will then be able to uninstall the relevant update.

This update can then be hidden to prevent it being installed with future updates by following the guide in the link below.

To confirm, this issue has been logged with our developers and the developers at Microsoft. These KB updates from Windows are related to .NET and have also affected other .NET apps too. When we get more information from our developers or Microsoft regarding this issue, we'll let everyone know.

There’s an unofficial workaround that our developers are aware of but it’s not something they recommend as it may cause unforeseen issues with the app. However, @lacertohas also provided this information for users wanting to go this route instead of removing updates - it can be found here. Again, Serif do not recommend this option and it’s not something we can support should anything happen with the app with this workaround enabled.

IMPORTANT UPDATE for anyone still using Affinity V1 -

Versions 1.10.6 of the Affinity suite have been released, which resolve these .NET Windows crashes.

Please see the below link for information on how to download and install these updates:

With the Affinity updates installed, you can now un-hide any previous Windows updates you have paused and install these without concern.

Please note -

I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time.

Should you require a response from the team in a thread I have previously replied in - please Create a New Thread and our team will be sure to reply as soon as possible.

Many thanks!
