Ayo
Hi – Is it possible to use a image as a background image that stays visible when drawing in outline mode? Would love a light UI.
Staff MEB Posted January 6, 2016 Staff Share Posted January 6, 2016 Hello Ayo, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) No, currently all layers are rendered in the selected View Mode. You may want to add this to the features requests section if you feel it's important for you. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
Madame
I'm not sure if I understand this right,.. but if you have your background layer you can add a white layer (rectangle tool filled with white) and set the opacity to about 50%. Then you can trace the outlines whit the pen tool. Ayo
Dag Madame, That is correct but if your artwork is already filled with color you can not use the template as a reference anymore. In Illustrator you can switch to outline for editing or detailing and still have your template visible.
Madame
I see. I think it would be handy if there was an easy way to turn on and of all the layers but the background. EDIT: There is, but you have to select them first, so not so quick and handy. Select multiple layers using shift click or cmd click. Click Show/Hide Layer on one of the selected layers. Edu Couchez
Just asking the same... very curious that Affinity uses similar case uses of Illustrator tools, that even it has the same problems. CorelDaw had this ability already in the mid 90's among other features still dreamed nowadays in other packages. It's an absolute must to be able to toggle between vector and outline mode while drawing complex illustrations. richardsison
+1 from me. Not being able to have a reference/background layer for outline mode makes the view fairly useless. I only every use outline mode in Illustrator when I'm tracing something and toggling back and forth between outline and normal views. Given the frequency of this toggle, I'd personally even want outline mode a little more accessible but that's just me…
Araps
+1 from me. I use this feature all the time. Also assigning a shortcut to toggle to outline mode would be helpful.
