myarro Posted September 23, 2022 Share Posted September 23, 2022 I have an Affinity Publisher doc with a full page graphic in the background of every page--which appears to be making the text rasterize. When I create a PDF, the text is not selectable or searchable. Any ideas on how to keep the searchable and selectable? I have tried not converting text to curves and hiding text behind the image. Old Bruce Posted September 23, 2022 Share Posted September 23, 2022 What is the blend mode for the Text layer in the Layers Panel? are there any adjustment layers or Effects involved? For a problem like this it would be best if you could post a one page document to the forum. Copy just the stuff that is causing the problem and paste it into a new document, check and make sure that the problem still exist with the export and then post that new small document here. Many things could be causing this. This will save a lot of guessing and checking and guessing and checking .... Old Bruce Posted September 23, 2022 Share Posted September 23, 2022 Well I am at a loss. Check your settings for export to PDF. I used the first three Presets and changed nothing. All the Text was selectable and the PDFs were searchable. If you suspect the full page graphic is causing this try exporting after you delete that. I'm wondering if the problem is with the PDF reader being used, rather than exporting the PDF in the first place? Are you able to upload the Druids-back page-final4.jpg as well just so we can rule that out, it is currently Linked in your document... When you say the text is rasterised and non-searchable, are you seeing this issue if you place the pdf in a new Publisher doc? Placing the pdf in Publisher will initially show the text as rasterised and it will be unsearchable because the default view for a placed pdf is Passthrough. Changing PDF Passthrough to Interpret on the context toolbar will show the text non-rasterised and clicking Edit Document, also on the context toolbar, will allow you to search the text... If not, which pdf reader are you seeing the issue in? Are you able to confirm how you’re viewing the pdf where you’re seeing the text rasterisation and non searchable text? As @thomaso suggests, if you could upload a sample of your pdf exhibiting the rasterised text it will make it easier to figure out what is going on... If you could also upload a screengrab of the More setttings you are using as part of PDF Export in Publisher so we can see how you have everything set, that would be very helpful.
