Ascertaining Font Style and Size created in an A-Pub creation

Recommended Posts

I opened an A-Pub creation created by a different person.

I wanted to ascertain the font style and size the used.

They created it in its own text box so I clicked on the text box but I don't see the font style/size listed anywhere.

I clicked on the Document (tab) and there's a Font Manager which lists 5 different fonts.

How can I best ascertain the font style/size used?

I'm using A-Pub on Windows 10.

Thank you.

I would first Save a Copy of the file, not the original from the other person, that way I can't mess-up the file and lose the information. Rename it using your name before the file name.

Use the Text caret, choose either the Frame Text text tool or the Art Text text tool to get the Text Caret. Put that in the text look at the Context toolbar. This is what it looks like in the case of a font that I don't have on my computer, you can see that the weight is missing.

And with text using a font which I do have.

A better way is to look in the Text styles panel. This is assuming that the document uses Text Styles.

Now working on the copy open the Text Styles panel and see what the text style is, check the top of the panel to see if there is a + after the name, this indicates additional formatting added to the Style. You may see that there is [No Change] for the font information, this means it is based on some other style. Check the Style section then open the Based on's style repeat.

You may need to go up to the style that it is based on to get all the information, eventually after chasing the Based on all the way to the top you'll see [No Change] still. Now check the bottom bit of the dialog.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

You will need to have a document open as well as the application. It can be a new empty document or an existing one. View > Studio > Text Styles will get you to the Text Styles panel. Now just double click on one of the Paragraph or Character Styles that will open the Text Styles Dialog window. Alternatively you can open up the Paragraph or Character Panel, View > Studio > Paragraph or Character and that will show you some stuff, I much prefer working with the Text Styles dialog.

Not for me on my Mac. View > Studio > Text Styles is available even if no document is open.

Are there any Text Styles listed there? I see none here.

None are listed, but my point was that the panel can be toggled on & off even when no document is open. (Note that  @chasm asked how to find the Text Styles panel, not how to use it.)
