Affinity Designer crashed now doesn't open.

Hi @NewToThis welcome to the forums,

This could be caused by a few different issues, initially I would suggest trying to disable Hardware Acceleration from outside the app by following the guide in the forum thread below and then launching again.

This may also be caused by a Third party application, I would confirm you have none of the software running in the below thread and also restart your PC and close any 3rd party apps which are set to launch on start-up in case they're interfering.

Additionally, is the app freezing/getting stuck on the splash screen or is it outright crashing? If the above two suggestions don't help, could you provide us with the latest crash report(s), the below thread details how to find these.

Many Thanks

Thank You for your response.
I still can't get it to open.
I have a Spectre X360 16-f1 2022 model.

Is the desktop version the best for this computer or the tablet one?

It's really disappointing (at the computer mostly) Affinity Design doesn't work on this computer. It's the only reason I got this computer.

I can't even run a crash report.

Please tell me there is a solution. I don't want to use a different design program.

Thank you

Hi @NewToThis,

My apologies in the delay in getting back to you.

Since the error indicates the location does not exist, it's more than likely you're using the Microsoft Store version of Designer, try following the below:

  1. Press the Windows Key + R to bring up the run window
  2. Paste in %AppData%\Affinity\Designer\1.0 (Store)\CrashReports\reports and press enter
  3. Send me two of the most recent available crash report files within this folder

Many thanks!

How strange. Within %AppData% folder does the 'Affinity' Folder exist at all?

This could indicate there is an issue with your installation, as none of the local files are present or have been given the chance to create. Could you try re-installing the app by following the below:

  1. Go to https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/fix-problems-that-block-programs-from-being-installed-or-removed-cca7d1b6-65a9-3d98-426b-e9f927e1eb4d and press 'Download Troubleshooter'
  2. Run the Troubleshooter, select 'Next' and 'Uninstalling'
  3. From the list of applications, find and select 'Affinity Designer' and select 'Next' (Let me know if you can't find Designer in the list of programs)
  4. Select 'Yes, Try uninstall' and follow the wizard through until the uninstall finishes
  5. After uninstalling, restart your PC and re-download and install Affinity Designer

Just now, NewToThis said:

Is it possible to get the non Microsoft Store version without paying for it again? Just to see if that works.

We can't provide refunds for our apps purchased through the MS store, this would need to be done seperately through the MS store and then purchased from the Affinity store, it's not likely that the Affinity store version will work if the MS version isn't, however.

My computer is not playing friends. I think it hates me 🙄
I wish I knew how to stop my system from blocking this.

I may need to find a tech person in my area to help me.

Looks like a security feature specific to Edge, you could try downloading an alternative Browser (Such as Chrome or Firefox) and try the download from the link again or try the workaround in the video below:
