Refine Selection to Smart Selection Tool

After I’ve made my selection through the Smart Selection Tool, I use the Refine Selection Tool, yet in the middle of working on the refining task, it’ll suddenly reset send me back to the Smart Selection Tool and lose all of the progress I just made on the tool, forcing me to restart once again which is really frustrating since it’s happened so many times and it has significantly increased my work time. Please provide a way for me to avoid this from continuously happening so that I can truly finish my work due to my clients. Unfortunately I can’t provide a picture/video example since this happens at random and sometimes it works

Sounds like you are working on a very detailed refinement, perhaps of an inanimate object with many straight lines and curves?

If so, do not use the selection tools, instead use the pen tool in smart mode and dab dab dab around the object you are trying to select, double tap on the first node to complete the curve. Then use the node tool to add and remove nodes, match curves and straight lines with as few nodes as possible.

Once complete, re-select the pen tool then convert to selection.
