Bungle,

Welcome to the forums. I think that the Affinity team has a different perspective on some things and it takes a little while to understand how they think. Often times it forces you to change your thinking but once you do, things work wonderfully.

Best of luck,

Bungle,

I was the same as you when I first started using Affinity's products, a few things seemed odd at first. Somethings even seemed wrong, like the crop tool that doesn't crop, until you hit "apply" but after using the software for a while and giving it a chance I came to understand their thinking and this helped me to have a greater appreciation for some of the features that I didn't like at first. After using Affinity Photo for some time, and having an open mind I came to appreciate how the crop tool works in Photo. So my advice to you is, keep an open mind, give it a try for a while. Sure there will no doubt be somethings that you don't like but all in all things are pretty good and they are improving things very quickly. If there are some features that you would like to see added, then request them. You sure can't do that with Adobe.

Pretty sure plenty of people have already requested a normal (You know round wheel hahaha) crop tool, make a selection and crop, just like any other app that ever existed in the history of software, oh wait, just like every Serif app that ever existed before this one too hahahaha.

Yes Affinity is great, yes it is very very very very basic at the moment and missing a lot of stuff, but what is there is not bad, it isn't PS obviously but it is not bad.

Hi Bungle,

A quick way to crop is to select the crop tool and then draw the crop selection area and then double click on this select and the crop will be applied. For an overview of the crop tool please click here to fire the video tutorial

Darren
