Designer, key combo for duplicate

Recommended Posts

Yes, v_kyr, it works perfectly in both apps. I have never had occasion to use "Duplicate" in Aff.Pub, despite having used the app for about three years now. But Command+J works just fine.

To misquote someone else, there are more things in Affinity apps than even heaven can comprehend!

Strange! - I for my part just/only have the "Show Help menu" entry there.

Same for me. Also, the usual default Finder shortcut for Duplicate is ⌘D (it's on the Finder File menu), which I believe is built into the app & so would not need to be added in the prefs.

All this makes me wonder how these things got set there for @Furry, & also why both duplicate shortcuts can't be deleted in the preference (which should just require highlighting them one at a time & clicking the minus button).

I am running Mojave. Could that affect the appearance of that panel in the Sydtem Preference/Shortcuts?

Following R C-R's comment, I checked in my Finder File menu and Duplicate was shown with the Command+J key combination. Then I went to that panel in System Preferences, selected one of the Duplicates and clicked on the minus sign. It disappeared (with there being no immediately obvious way of reinstating it, should I want to.) I repeated this action with the other Duplicate.

Then I checked the Finder File menu and Duplicate is now Command+D, as it should be. So I checked both Designer and Publisher and each is still showing Command+J. So it seems that things have gone back to (more-or-less) normal, except there are still several unanswered quetions.

Usually not, I run an older MacOS system and there things look normal. - Are yours MAS (MacApp Store), or Affinity Store bought apps and are they installed with root or user privileges?

NO ! ! !

Use Command + D for the Finder's Duplicate, as that is the default that ships with the OS.

Yeah I finally got caught up, I have hidden my post because it may cause confusion in the future.

This has been a strange journey. I am glad it has ended well.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 11.7.3
Affinity Designer 2.0.4 | Affinity Photo 2.0.4 | Affinity Publisher 2.0.4 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Just make sure App Shortcuts is selected on the left & press the Plus button to the left of the minus one. A new window will pop up like below, so just follow the instructions about entering the exact name of the menu command & select the keyboard shortcut you want to assign to it. The top "Application" field is a popup, so if you click on it, you can choose from any installed app that supports the normal Mac keyboard shortcut conventions.

I still do not know how you managed to get those extra shortcuts into that preference because I am almost 100% certain none of them are defaults for any recent version of the macOS, including Mojave.

That's the strange and mystery about it.

I purchased Desiger directly from Affinity in 2019. I have never (until this particular saga began) attepted to change any key combinations, neither in Designer, nor in Publisher, nor in the Finder. I have no idea where those rogue key combinations came from. All I can think of was that I needed to submit my Mac to an Apple Dealer about two years ago when erratic behaviour at the time indicated (as it turned out, correctly) that it had been attacked by a virus. I guess it is possible but unlikely, that the key combination in System Preferences was changed then. Since that Apple Dealer seems to have closed up shop since then (pity, because they were very reliable) there is no way of finding out.
